You may need to play with others to finish Destiny

Destiny, the incredibly ambitious new shooter from Halo-maker Bungie is a game that’s best enjoyed with others. While not the MMO some have billed it as, it’s a shooter with large-scale events that’s built around playing co-operatively. Bungie’s said you’ll be able to play the game solo if you choose, and that’s true for the main story, but you’ll have to find a friend if you plan to finish everything.

Naturally, this means Darryn will never, ever see the game’s end bits. Speaking to GameInformer, Bungie co-founder and game director Jason jones clarified the situation a little. Yes, you will be able to play the game alone, which suits me just fine, because I hate everybody.

“You absolutely are going to be able to play Destiny by yourself and have the same kind of fun shooter-experience that you could have in a single-player campaign, which is a word that we’ve weeded out of our vocabulary," Jones said.

But we’re going to give you this great player-progression on top of that, and we’re going to give you as many opportunities as we possibly can to expose you to other people, so that hopefully you’re drawn into some social experiences, because those are incredibly powerful and interesting, but we’re not going to force those on you.”

That said, some of the “end-game activities” will require a group of people to finish.

"We describe it in a lot of ways as sloping the floor towards socialization, without putting a requirement on it," Jones continued. "I would say that there’s some sort of – if you wanted to talk about it in MMO terms, you’d say ‘end-game activities’, but some of the most intense non-competitive activities in the game do require cooperation. They require a group of players to tackle at once.

"I guess at some variable, distant endpoint we are going to say, ‘Yeah, if you show up at this door, and you don’t have five friends, you’re not going to be able to succeed’, but the core experience that solo players have enjoyed in shooters, they’re going to be able to get that, and we’re going to pull many of them into social experiences as well."

I hate being forced to interact with real people, even in videogames, but I have to admit that Destiny looks like a pretty good time; a bit like if Halo and Borderlands had a baby.

As with women, the only time Darryn will see the “end bits”, is in a video on the internet…

    “single-player campaign” Bwahahahahahaha

That is like giving an off line gamer a finished, fixed product that we cannot own or control anymore.

How does one DATA FARM or DRM through registration redeem codes if the game is single player.

Single player lol so old school.

    WE OWN YOU.

Just stating the facts as usual. While the Lemming zombie gamers are drawn to new shiny horse armor work models where the main ulterior motive is control.

Only gamers buy their products before it is made, only gamers buy products that will never be theirs and only gamers buy broken shit.

Considering gaming is like a drug. Expect the money hungry suits to do what they want when they want. The gamer will lap it up like a little microbe transaction.

The internet killed ownership. I am just waiting for the Sim City servers to bomb out or shut down. But I bet the gamers will still be happy with their R599 tea coasters.

Well, I guess here is a game I will never buy. For example, I bought and played Guild Wars 2. Loved it. No forced “multiplayer”, just random encounters. Until the last bit, where you have to form a party. So I never got to see the end. 🙁
