You won’t be able to buy Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 DLC outside of the Expansion Pass

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is out later this week, with the Switch exclusive hack, slash and super-powered brawler bringing a dose of super mayhem to Nintendo’s handheld hybrid. The game is developed by Ninja Gaiden and Nioh developer Team Ninja, instead of the collection of developers under Activision’s stable.

It’s called the Black Order, and it seems like a great, chaotic load of fun. The game’s not out yet, but we know that the game is getting a trio of post-release DLC, adding new characters – pulled from Fantastic Four, Marvel Knights, and X-Men – along with some new story content.

Unfortunately, it looks like you won’t be able to pick and choose the DLC you want, as it’s all bundled together under an Expansion Pass.

Says the Expansion Pass’ store page:

“This paid Expansion Pass includes 3 DLC packs, which will become available as they release one at a time after the launch of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order and will not be sold individually.“

This is a very Nintendo way of doing DLC. Both Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade 2 did this very thing – and it’s only Smash Bros Ultimate that comes to mind as a Nintendo-published game that allows you to pick and choose the DLC and characters you want to buy.

It’s a pity, especially if you want an expanded X-Men roster and care little (rightly) for the Fantastic 4. It’s all or nothing. The game is out on Friday, Buying the Expansion Pass also nets you an alternate Chef costume for Deadpool.

“Assemble your ultimate team of Marvel Super Heroes from a huge cast including the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, and more! Team up with friends to prevent galactic devastation at the hands of the mad cosmic tyrant Thanos and his ruthless warmasters, The Black Order.”

That’s kinda ass :/ Also, While I love Team Ninja, the game itself is also looking….kinda ass. Maybe ass is too harsh, but it does look ass-ish.

The Ultimate Alliance of 3 DLCs can’t be separated, because, well, they’re the Ultimate Alliance DLCs.

I’m just sad that the silly “Exclusive” word is being bandied about again. Would love to pick this up on the Xbox.
