Last week we told you of the hi-res texture-pack for Battlefield 3 that’ll be available to Xbox 360 owners as an optional install. According to Battlefield 3 producer Robbie Bach, if you have an Xbox 360 hard drive, you’ll definitely want to install it because “You could call it a ‘standard-def’ version for the 360 if you don’t have a hard-drive.”

Today, thanks to Reddit user xxgrplayer we’ve got visual confirmation of just what a difference the texture pack makes. The texture pack, found on the second disc, weighs in at around 2GB and rather dramatically improves the game’s visuals for Xbox 360 owners. It doesn’t nearly  reach the highs of the graphically superior PC version, but it’s really not jarringly dissimilar, and certainly not as bad as it gets. Quite a triumph, considering how old the hardware in current consoles is. PlayStation gamers need not worry, as the texture pack makes up the game’s mandatory install.

Comparison after the jump.

While the PC version – there’s no mention of what hardware it’s running on, mind – is obviously superior, the 360 version running with the texture pack doesn’t look bad at all. The 360 version without the pack though..that looks pretty nasty – actually reminiscent of 2004’s Half-Life 2. Battlefield 3 gets a released in the US tomorrow, with a European territory release this Friday.
