I’m still neck-deep in my current quest to be the best like no one ever was in Pokémon Sun and Moon, but man oh man the formula sure has changed. I’ll leave that discussion for the actual review, but let’s just say that this is a Pokémon game that wants a newer and hungrier audience to join the veterans. And nothing lures in the young ones, better than a challenge that requires a lot of balls.

Pokéballs to be precise, you perverts. One of the new additions to Pokémon Sun and Moon happens to be the Festival Plaza, a hub where trainers can socialise, train Pokémon and up your cosmetic skills. It’s also home to Global Events, a limited-time challenge where developer Game Freak tasks players with meeting a specific goal. The first such challenge? Catching Pokémon. 100 million of them apparently, according to the official blurb:

festivalplaza

If everyone combines their efforts to catch 100 million Pokémon between November 29 and December 13, 2016, each participant will receive 1,000 Festival Coins as a reward. If the goal isn’t met, Trainers who contributed will still receive a participation prize of 100 Festival Coins. To be sure that your Pokémon bounty gets included in the final count, be sure to use Game Sync by December 13.

Game syncing is easier than failing a driver’s license test the first time. All you have to do is hit X on your 3DS, select Festival Carnival and go to the PC on the right inside the castle. At that point a German player will ask you what you’re syncing about. Maybe. Probably not. Once your account is up and running, talk to the lady next to the PC and you’re good to go.

With 1000 Festival Coins on the line, it’s a challenge worth pursuing, as that kind of scratch will give you plenty to buy in the Festival Plaza. I hope your Pokéballs are ready for this.
