There’s been some debate this week over in gamer-ville about the “excessive” violence in BioShock: Infinite. Today we’d love to hear your thoughts on films, good or bad, that you felt overdid the violence.
Can you think of examples where you found the brutality jarring and pulled you right out of the movie experience? What about those flicks where the unexpected violence adds emphasis and emotional power to events onscreen? (I’m thinking Drive, personally). Which films and filmmakers have got it right in the past? Who knows how to find that balance?

Driver. The two scenes, I am sure you know which ones I am talking about, were very violent, and did shock me. I know this was done on purpose, but still. WOW.

It’s all about taste. Some like torture porn or mondo doccies. Some like OTT stuff by Takashi Miike or Lucio Fulci. Some like the overstated/understated touches of Tarantino or Takeshi Kitano. But I like wha tPaul Verhoeven once said: movie violence always will be make-believe when compared to the real thing.
