Midweek Movie Mouth-Off: What’s the dumbest complaint you’ve ever heard about a movie?

After Spidey’s big reveal in the latest trailer for Captain America: Civil War, of course pedants have come out of the woodwork to complain about, well, everything to do with him. His costume is too cartoony, his eye lenses are too small, his logo is too fat, the works. Some people have even said they will go so far as to not watch the movie thanks to this, which is beyond ridiculous.

But these are just the latest in a rich history of complaining about really dumb things in movies. You can complain about major plot holes, sure, or bad acting or terrible CGI, but there are sometimes people nit-pick to the point of completely missing the point. Some breathtakingly ignorant criticisms I’ve heard range from “All they did in Fury Road was go back to where they started!” to “I can’t watch a black Stormtrooper!” to “this superhero movie is unrealistic!” or, my personal favourite, “this based-on-a-true-story movie is too predictable!”

So what incredibly silly complaint have you overheard about a movie that left your jaw on the floor?

Man of Steel – why didn’t Superman save everyone in Metropolis when Zod was destroying the whole city, he could’ve run/flown really fast.

Watchmen – “it’s too much like the source material!” when the goddamn comic book fans complain EVERY. TIME. “it’s not enough like the source material!” WITH. EVERY. OTHER. MOVIE.

SW E7 – “they didn’t resolve all the plot points & left questions unanswered!”

During a screening of the first Hobbit film, I heard someone complain that it was just a rip-off of Lord of the Rings.

HA! No way! That’s officially the most ridiculous complaint about a movie I’ve ever heard.
