The second DLC pack has dropped for Call of Duty: Ghosts and with it comes 4 brand new multiplayer maps, an awesome new SMG, more extinction gameplay and the ability to play as the best hunter in the universe: The Predator.

So let’s get into it. The 4 new maps are the main bulk of this DLC and all 4 of them offer something new and interesting to the multiplayer portion of the game.

In my reverse order of preference we have:

Ruins

In Ruins you are dropped into the ruins of what appears to be an old Aztec temple. The map has some great verticality with the ability to snipe from up high or run around in the bowels of the map.

Thankfully there aren’t many long lines so sniper camping is kept to a minimum but I also feel a lot of the map is left unexplored due to the forcing of players into the middle. However this map is also the most unique as it allows you to play as The Predator on it.

To do this all you need to do is pick up the special Predator field order and complete it. Then you can run around using thermal hunter vision, shoulder mounted cannon and dual wrist blades. You are also able to take a lot more damage before being killed.

It’s awesome coming around the corner and seeing the predator bearing down on you.

Behemoth

Behemoth is set on a massive mining machine which is nicely split into around 3 sections which enable sniping, close quarter battles and ambushes.

This is my least favourite map on plan death match but my second favourite on kill confirmed as the narrow passages and many corners make it fantastic for laying traps and holding areas of the map. But you can’t camp too much since you need to get those tags which are dropped.

Collision

Collision takes place on both a boat and the bridge that it has rammed into. Possibly the simplest of the 4 maps,  it is well designed for close quarter gun fights and snipers will likely find this one the most infuriating of the lot with very few long sight lines available for those specialists.

Unearthed

Unearthed is easily my favourite map as it offers many different play-styles and areas to engage in. The feature of this map is the swinging crane which you need to release using grenades or rocket launchers.

This then causes a metal cage to swing from one side of the map to the other giving you an opportunity to rain down hell on players below you. There is also a catwalk which is great for picking off opposition players as well as a cramped underground area and a large warehouse to move around the map in.

There are many places to camp in but it never feels like campers have the upper hand as each one is approachable from multiple angles.

The Ripper

ripper

The ripper has quickly become my favourite weapon on Ghosts with the small SMG being incredibly accurate , as well as stable and quick to reload.

I’ve always been an assault fan before but this SMG has changed me for the better. I’m actually getting a bit sad that I’ve nearly completed all the operations on it already. It’s not great for the large maps but since none of the new devastation maps are particularly large this works perfectly for them.

Extinction: Mayday

call-of-duty-extinction-game-mode

Extinction is the response to zombies from Activision and it has found a solid fan base with many gamers. Unfortunately I’m not one of those gamers. It’s fun and I can see the joy of doing it but it’s not a game mode that resonates with me.

However if you are a fan of Extinction then you’ll be happy to know that the Devastation DLC brings an entire new episode to the game. It’s exactly what you expect with some nice additions but if you are not a fan of Extinction this is not going to change your mind.

So is Devastation worth the R140 that it’s retailing at?

Well that very much depends if you play a lot of Ghosts online or not. The new maps are all my new favourites and I‘ve had a great couple of days getting to know them. Well worth the money in my mind.

Devastation is available now on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One and is coming to the PlayStation and PC versions soon.

So I DL this DLC and then get the infamous error 800-what-what. Corrupts the game data for Ghosts and I can’t play because the disc now refuses to start-up. Thanks, Activision. Look at my picture. That thumbs up is for you.
