Castlevania: Symphony of the Night vs Heavy Weapon

So I had some spare time over the weekend and decided to check out two of the newer editions to XBLA. Castlevania and Heavy Weapon.

Both these games are based on the old side scrolling platform games that I grew up on and I was looking forward to having some flashbacks to the good old days when computers where underpowered and things took forever to load… Umm… Okay so maybe not really the good olds days but you get the idea.

I played Heavy Weapon first and thoroughly enjoyed it, it’s fast paced, with way to many missiles and bullets on one screen while your tank is grossly overpowered. Why didn’t the army just make a few more of those tanks and then you would never have been invaded? That’s beside the point though. All in all it was a brilliant wat to spend a couple of minutes/hours playing a new classic game…

I then moved onto Castevania and was thoroughly dissapointed. It is exactly the same as it used to be. Yeah that might work for some people but personally I want some innovation even in my retro games. I see no reason in shelling out 800 points for an old game that plays the same as it did back in the day.

So if you are a big fan of side scrolling action I recommend picking up a copy of Heavy Weapon of XBLA, it’s well worth the money…
