Dead Rising 3 review round-up

A great film would be 'Invasion of the Zombie Killer Tortoises'. Just imagine hordes of people screaming for their lives as they walk away.

Neeeeed…more…launch gaaaaaames. If there was an Xbox One game that had both myself and Geoff drooling at E3 this year, it had to be Dead Rising 3.Brash, violent and in your face with a chainsaw duct-taped to an oar, the game was plenty of fun. The embargo has lifted for Dead Rising 3, and the critics have plenty to say about the running dead simulator.

And not all of it is positive. While the general consensus is that Dead Rising 3 is a fun game, it happens to be hampered by several bugs, visuals that show the ported nature of the game and a general inconsistency when it comes to challenging players.

Destructoid – 9/10

Dead Rising 3 (1)

Although it sacrifices a tad of its loveable camp factor and neon style in favor of a few other advancements, the outcome is a much stronger, more involved Dead Rising game. For once, I actually felt overwhelmed in a zombie outbreak, which is a real example of how next-gen technology can be used to do more than simply "make things look better."

GameInformer – 8.75/10

Dead Rising 3 (7)

Capcom Vancouver’s latest entry in the Dead Rising saga is an impressive display of big, dumb fun, and a must-play for fans of the series. It’s also a great demonstration of the outstanding capabilities of next-gen hardware right out of the gate.

NowGamer – 8/10

Dead Rising 3 (2)

At best it’s an unoriginal concept well-executed, at worst it’s an Xbox 360 game hastily ported over to Xbox One. Ignore the technical limits, however, and you’re in for a good time.

Eurogamer – 7/10

Dead Rising 3 (3)

Dead Rising 3 is the weakest in the series, then…Just beware, once you get over the pleasure of the first few combo weapons, Dead Rising 3 is just a solid zombie brawler set in an open world, not the strange game of tender heart that used to be so funny and surprising.

Gamespot – 7/10

Dead Rising 3 (5)

Despite a wonky presentation and obvious technical hiccups, Capcom has successfully made Dead Rising 3 a more welcoming experience than its harsh predecessors. It can be an inconsistent experience, but I choose to ignore the game’s peculiarities and play Dead Rising 3 in the spirit that I believe it’s intended: running around in shark outfit shooting zombies with deadly dildos fired from a leaf blower.

Shacknews – 6/10

Dead Rising 3 (6)

Capcom Vancouver shot for a much larger world and, in the end, that idea wound up taking away from the overall experience. In the case of Dead Rising 3, I feel like less would have been more.

Dead Rising 3 still sounds like a load of fun mind you, but fun that could have easily found a home on the Xbox 360 instead of as a launch title for the next-gen Xbox One. It’s out right now, but we’ll have to wait until next to see it in action.

Yes, but in my case it’s right-shift and tab.

Well the scores are mixed, but the truly great next gen games will only come later in 2014, When developers start working things out.
