Is Ride to Hell: Retribution the worst game of 2013?

Ride to hell

We’ve seen plenty of great games so far this year. The Last of Us, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Injustice, Luigi’s Mansion 2 and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance again. We’ve also seen some that are downright terrible and smell like Batman & Robin. But Ride to Hell: Retribution just might be the worst of the lot.

Over on Metacritic, Ride to Hell Retribution is currently sitting with an average score of 19. And that’s just from the ten reviewers on that site, who had to actually pay money to play that game. No review copies were sent out, a sign usually reserved for games that can only be described as apocalyptically bad.

Here’s a few choice quotes so far from reviewers who most likely had to down some vintage scotch whisky in order to get through the clusterfudge of bad gameplay and dated visuals which sought to capitalise on the popularity of Sons of Anarchy:

Don’t play Ride to Hell: Retribution. Don’t think about playing it. Don’t think about thinking about playing it. Forget it exists, and continue your life as though it never did.

EGM – 0.5/10

With the exception of some Kinect and Wii games that flat-out don’t work, this is the worst video game I’ve played this console generation. Thankfully, it’s terrible in such a way as to make it absolutely hilarious to play. As I played, curious co-workers stopped by to gawk at its unbelievable ineptness.

Game Informer – 20/100

A now-linear mess of awful mechanics, broken A.I., and constant glitches that wouldn’t have been remotely acceptable even in the console’s early days.

Official Xbox Magazine – 1.0/10

To Deep Silver, I can say only this: how dare you? How dare you charge $29.99 for a game that would be theft at a third of that price? How dare you resurrect a game that should have stayed canceled in 2009? How dare you? Any goodwill you may have earned from customers in your years of existence will be absolutely ruined by the release of this squalid little mutant of a game.

Destuctoid – 1/10

Ride to Hell: Retribution was at one point cancelled when it was in development. Apparently, with review scores such as that, it should have stayed that way. Which paradoxically, makes me want to play it now.

It’s like driving past an accident, pretending not to notice, with one eye.
Btw, Geoff took it today, even after the awesome Pulp Fiction “cosplay”.

As Bacon would say: “Too late, too late” will be the cry…

Bacon said that? My Bacon usually just sits still in fear and wait for me to eat it.

Deep Silver? Why am I not surprised? That’s the same company that was dissing EA and Activision recently.

Header win! Though think Geoff may have pulled off the impossible and won today, even with the Pulp Fiction. Next time, stop playing with your ‘batteries’ and put your head in the game! This game, however, I will NOT be putting my head anywhere near, either of them… 0-o

It is. Watch the YouTube clips on “Gameplay”. A word that is used quite loosley in this game. Character models are ugly and the physics of the bikes are kots- worthy.

That whole “how dare you” thing got me laughing. Gonna look for a YouTube clip on this now so I can laugh.

Worse than War Z (now called Infestation: Survivor Stories)? I find that hard to believe. Now, I have to play it, just to make sure….
