The Board Game Truck Kickstarter is the answer to your tabletop transport needs… kind of

It seems pretty redundant to say board games are a social event. You generally need a couple of people together in one place in order to play anything. If you’re like me, and you have a board game group that meets in various locations, transporting your board games can get tedious. You’re always worried about the components and the boxes, and you always have to hope that it doesn’t suddenly start raining when you’re bringing a bunch of boxes in from the car!

That’s why I tend to only take my lightweight games wherever I go. Games like Love Letter and Star Fluxx will easily fit into my handbag, so I know they’re safe and will generally come out unscathed. So when I came across the Kickstarter for Board Game Truck, it really sounds like the answer to all my prayers! Well… kind of, but I’ll get to that.

With three different size bags to choose from, Board Game Truck has the answer for storing and transporting almost every game imaginable. The Flatbed (above) carries one game, and has transparent sides, so you can shelve the game in the bag and still display it. The Bulwark (below) and The Tank are your heavy-duty mobility options, carrying between two to three games for the Bulwark, and up to seven games in The Tank. All of them are water-resistant and dust proof, with scratch-proof zips and various carry straps.

The good news is, this project is already funded, so you don’t have to worry about pledging towards something that might never come to fruition. It’s also still got 30 days left on the clock, so if your payday hasn’t come around yet you’ve still got plenty of time.

The bad news? Besides for being pretty expensive, it’s not actually available to ship to South Africa. Boo! But, if you’ve got kindly relatives overseas, or can make use of a service like Aramex Global Shopper, then you’re good to go. Or you can just stare wistfully at the Kickstarter page, like I’ve been doing. Sigh…

I have a MIGHTY NEED to play LotR Risk!

For some time now, but two problems here:

    – NO LotR Risk
    – NO one to play that with

Same here, always hard to find people to sit down & play a board game with.
What about getting a group of people who comment on CriticalHit & meetup on a day somewhere?

That would be awesome. I wouldn’t mind buying a board game or two to play if there’s a weekly meetup or summing.

I agree same here. Where about is everyone located? I am based in Johannesburg North mostly but don’t mind meeting up once a week.

There are public boardgaming events. The stores have them to boost sales, and have about a 100 to try, with peeps on hand to assist with rules.

In JHB, Timeless boardgames has an event once a month. I believe there is something similar in Ctn.

Peeps there are happy to join up with strangers to make up the numbers for a game. You really just need 1 friend to join you, because “looking for group” on your own is a little daunting, but if you’re there with a mate, you can at least fall back to 2 player games if you can’t join a group for the bigger ones.
