The Legend of Korra gets a tabletop re-imagining in Pro-Bending Arena

Go Fire Ferrets! If you’ve ever wanted to live the pro-bending lifestyle, but were sadly lacking in bending skills, now’s your chance. Later this year, IDW Games and Nickelodeon will launch a Kickstarter campaign for The Legend of Korra: Pro-Bending Arena.

Legend of Korra: Pro-Bending Arena

In the game, two players will take control of one of two teams: the Future Industries Fire Ferrets, or their bitter rivals, the White Falls Wolfbats. Teams will draft benders by building a deck of cards and deploying elemental tokens across the game board. As in the show, there are two ways to win a pro-bending match: either advance the furthest across the board before the game is over or knock all of your opponents out of the ring.

The Legend of Korra: Pro-Bending Arena is a collaboration between Sen-Foong Lim (Akrotiri, The Godfather: A New Don) and Jessey Wright (Pocket Adventure). IDW Games has also noted that this is only the first Legend of Korra game to be released under the Nickelodeon deal, implying that there will be future adventures back to Republic City – though no further details have been hinted at.

Honestly, I don’t know if this will be a day one purchase/Kickstart for me. As much as I love The Legend of Korra, I’m absolutely terrible at deck-building games. It’s definitely not my favourite mechanic! But, I’ll give it a chance. Hopefully, this will be the game that changes my mind about deck-builders.

Expect to see The Legend of Korra: Pro-Bending Arena on Kickstarter soon, to be released to your local game stores before the end of the year.
