GOG Galaxy is relaunching as a unified client that’s the “all-in-one solution for the present-day gamer”

There are too many damned PC Gaming clients. You’ve got Steam, Epic, uPlay, Origin, Bethesda’s Launcher, Itch.io, Battle.net and the uh…Windows Store. Then there’s GOG’s Galaxy, a bit of a rubbish client that I only used because I bought the Witcher 3 through that storefront. They all offer different features and functionality, and it can be a bit tiresome juggling all of these just to play some video games.

1 - Games - Recent

GOG is updating their client to 2.0, and they’ve got some big plans. GOG Galaxy 2.0 aims to unite not just your games, but also your friends within one client. You’ll be able to import all of your games from the myriad PC game clients and consoles and organise them into a single collection, with filtering, sorting, tagging and custom backgrounds and covers. You’ll be able to track your achievements and progress on all of your games.

2 - Games - All games

The system will also house an activity feed, allowing you to see your friends achievements across platforms, and also compete with them through leaderboards. There are a few planned features that won’t be available at launch, including a completely unified friends list with cross-platform chat.

The TL;DR version from GOG themselves:

“GOG GALAXY 2.0 is an application, thanks to which you’ll be able to combine multiple libraries into one and connect with your friends across all gaming platforms, consoles included. If your games and gaming buddies are scattered between different launchers and platforms, this is a solution for you! Keeping track of all achievements earned by you and your friends, hours played, and games owned across platforms has never been this easy. And the application is entirely free, all you need is a GOG account to use it.”

3 - Friends - Activity

If that sounds good to you, there’s a closed beta coming soon, which you can sign up for here.

GOG a rubbish client? Weak bait! But I’ll take it…. it’s a damn masterpiece compared to some of the other ones.
I love this idea though, as GOG is one of the three clients I actually use and a very nice one too (YEA I SAID IT). My biggest gripe in today’s pc world is having games all over the place.
Sure, I still won’t touch Epic, Windows and Origin games, but to have all the others together will be damn nice.

I still use it fairly often. I have some great games on there.
I have never heard of Itch.io though. No idea what that is. And I’ve never used Blizzard.net
And naturally never bothered with Epic, never will

I’ve played some Diablo (well, a lot actually) and some Overwatch, but I haven’t opened the client, or even installed it on my new pc (which is 6 months old now)

Blizzard just fell off the radar for me completely during the time everything went 100% digital. Their presence was just so limited in the online stores that I forgot completely about them and just never bothered with it again since it was out of sight, out of mind.

So I’ll probably never use the Blizz client.

Nice to hear they are improving, couple years back it was rubbish so I opted to just old skool manually install my GOG games.

That is probably why I like the way GOG does things, choice.

Yea, but a couple of years back it was brand spanking new. So it was teething problems. It’s a very nice client now. And you can update games while you play them, which is just great.

Cool, I’ll definitely give it a shot. I’ve already linked my GOG & Steam libraries to take advantage of the GOG freebies, so adding Uplay isn’t a stretch. New library screens also look a lot prettier than what it’s like currently.

Exactly. How else am I supposed to know when you’re playing anime mecha games.

And how else am I supposed to team up with Yahtzee and rip your screenshots to shreds! – Though the opposite seems to happen more often.

Sounds a bit like the VOD environment – too many damn clients! It would be absolutely epic if somebody could develop one client to rule them all, but alas, I’m pretty sure that is currently impossible!

The word “epic” really has lost all its power. XD
