I’m giving a tech talk, with your help

As some of you know by now, we really enjoy doing fun stuff with Darryn’s “wife” and TechGirl editor, Sam Wright. She was the catalyst for the ridiculously entertaining Mortal Kombat X fight with SA Gamer, and has also contributed a bunch of content to us when she gets sent around the world to play with the latest tech toys. She and I also do a podcast where we talk about everything from tech to our failings as feminists to cyber infidelity. Now, she and I are looking to do a talk at a major tech conference, but we need your support.

Tech4Africa isn’t your typical tech event. It seeks to break the rules, upset trends and present great content outside of the typical “networking event” space. Towards that end, the focus is on giving interesting talks but the organizers don’t pretend to know what’s going to interest everyone. As a result, people can vote on the talks that they’d like to hear, and that’s where you come in.

Sam and I have pitched the idea for a talk. Basically, we didn’t want to talk about the same old controversies and drama about women in tech. Instead, we want to look at what women want from their tech and how companies are getting it wrong when convincing women to buy their products. Our presentation also may or may not include demonstrations by Sam of fitting phones in her skinny jeans pockets. But really, we’d like to give a talk and get the word out there that women are also smart tech consumers and fix the way companies talk to us.
