Master Race, schmaster pace. PC Gaming, despite all its critique, is alive and better than ever, standing side by side with current-gen consoles and still delivering the best experience of the three. An experience, mind you, that comes at a much greater cost, but not as high as one would expect. That’s even more true when you look at our favourite slice of gaming hardware from 2014, which changed the scene of video cards for good.
And the winner is… Asus GTX 970!
Nvidia completely changed the landscape of video cards with the introduction of their new Maxwell series, which includes the GTX 970 and 980. The GTX 980 is the beefier of the two, but it’s the 970 that really stands out this year. It’s insanely powerful out of the box, and even able to reach the heights of the 980 with a little bit of tweaking here and there.
But its real draw is the price. Nvidia dealt a massive blow to AMD with the GTX 970, delivering a top of the range card at a mid-range price point. AMD still has to show their response, but can be proud that they’ve forced Nvidia to essentially back down from years of price hiking. We, as consumers, are ultimately the biggest winners, and right now you’d be hard pressed to find a better card than Asus’ version of the GTX 970.

Never had a problem with either red or green, switch to green last year after my amd card burnt out (had it for really long though) and never had a problem with my 770.

I had nvidia my entire life. Switched to red about three months ago. Had software problems with three of my last nvidia cards. I actually did a format to try and fix it, nothing worked.
But such small things set off software issues, so what doesn’t work for one person works for the other.
