Microsoft has earned $20 Billion this year so far

beans

We know that Microsoft’s Xbox One isn’t selling quite as well as Sony’s PlayStation 4 at the moment, but it seems it hardly matters – Microsoft is still making tons of money from its consoles. The hardware and devices division, which includes the Xbox brand, has made Microsoft just under $2 Billion in revenue this year so far.

As a whole, the company reported revenues of over $20 billion, of which $5.56 billion was pure profit.

Devices and consumer hardware  reported $1.97 million in revenue in this past quarter ending March 31. In that time, 2 million Xboxes were sold in, including 1.2 million Xbox Ones. It’s worth noting that those are sell-in, not sell-through numbers – so they represent consoles sold to stores and distributors, and not those taking control of consumers’ living rooms.

“This quarter’s results demonstrate the strength of our business, as well as the opportunities we see in a mobile-first, cloud-first world," said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in a prepared statement.

"We are making good progress in our consumer services like Bing and Office 365 Home, and our commercial customers continue to embrace our cloud solutions. Both position us well for long-term growth. We are focused on executing rapidly and delivering bold, innovative products that people love to use."

That’s a lot of beans. Sony may have won gamers hearts and minds – but the reality of it is that the company is still in a poor financial state. Things certainly seems to be looking up for the Japanese giant under Kaz Hirai’s One Sony, but when it comes to the business of actually making money Microsoft’s certainly in the lead.

PS4 doesn’t really have a library seeing how it is about six months old. But give it time. PS3 is a testament to that. Oh and what free games is the XBOX One getting?

Don’t need free $1 games, I just need Forza and Titanfall on my console. That will keep me more than busy 🙂

That is how I feel about Fifa, I don’t mind the library at the moment. I have my eye on Watch Dogs, Murdered: Soul Suspect, Sniper Elite 3, Destiny, Dragon age… And then for a surprise I am keeping track of both Bound by flame and Wolfenstein, I think one of them will be a good game!!

The PS4 should be better on multiplatform titles until the clouds arrive at Redmond. PC will be my stock gap until the pricing on the consoles drop.

I think the price drops will come earlier than on the previous generation. I think 1-1,5 years and we will get slim consoles!! As long as we can game I am happy!!

Played it twice because two endings and two difficulty levels. Gonna trade it as soon as the next big PS4 title releases.

I always kept my Xbox and PS3 exclusives no matter what the circumstances. I think I traded Kameo in once and bought it again when it released on Classics.

Kameo was such a cool game. It is probably the first “big” game that I would like my daughter to try one day!! She will probably ask me what is a Xbox and Playstation and sit with her glasses on playing some or another crap Google glass game!!

I’m saying that a company financial status can change a lot in less than a decade.

And as usual you are WRONG:
          Sega: 1940
          Atari: 1972
          MS: 1975

On the contrary, I know our currency is to blame, but a R200 increase per annum for Office 365 is steep for most of our locals.

If they adopted the EA scheme you’d have to pay a monthly fee and five bucks every time you want to use control panel.

None of that profit has anything to with the Xbox division, just like Sony they are still losing a crap load on the console business, Also not Windows or the mobile phone divisions.

They made some brilliant early investments in server and “real” cloud based infrastructure and is now reaping the awards.

” $20 billion, of which $5.56 billion was pure profit.” and yet , not even ONE DATACENTER (Azura data center i think they called) in thee whole continent of AFRICA , the whole of africa doesn’t have a data center , these pricks make $5.56 BILL and cant even invest a lousy R100 000 or so for a local data center , and then at the same time have adverts all over the place about the Microsoft experience (MSN , Azura , office 365 , live messenger etc etc ) what a bunch of cocks really , lets go back to the 360 launch ( if i am not mistaken 360 owners had to make fake accounts this and vpn that and blah blah blah ,to access the on-line features that u have to pay for (but cant use )

really MS , go bomb somewhere , its a freaking joke that u sell and advertise half baked goods ( 360 , now office 365 aswell) and the continue to sell and advertise and continue to tell us how much billions u made and yet , you still don’t invest in Africa . not one server not even a whisper of when we could can expect it

no wonder people pirate you stuff
