Microsoft scrapping MS Points?

Bananadollar

I hate Microsoft’s silly faux currency that’s used for transactions over Xbox Live.  Very much like how hotdog buns come in packs of 6 or 8 and hotdogs come in packs of 10, transacting with MS points means you’ll always have something left over – only not enough to do anything proper with.

And while wolfing down extra sausages like you’re Linda Lovelace is at least tasty, all you can do with those extra MS points is buy useless crap for your Xbox Live Avatar. Thankfully, it looks like Microsoft may be doing away with its pointless banana dollars.

According to The Verge, Microsoft will replace MS Points in its next generation console with a new gift card system, that uses real-world monetary values, similar to how PlayStation Network and iTunes vouchers currently work.

Apparently credit and debit card transactions will also be allowed, with the new system spanning across the entire Microsoft’s digital storefront ecosystem; Windows Store, Phone Store, and Xbox Live.

This isn’t the first time that MS Banana Dollars have been rumoured to get the axe – but with the next-gen reveal just around the corner, the timing is right. I’m happy to see MS Points go, with the only caveat being that it was often possible to find Points cards for significantly cheaper than their Dollar value. If there’s a switch to real-world currency, that’ll likely change.

So Banana Jim is actually a real banana , the fact that he has his own currency just further solidifies this fact.

Always felt it’s rather silly to make people spend real money to buy your fake money to buy your product with your fake money because you don’t accept real money for your product.

What are they going to have now? A form of currency where you are made to jump up and down, or perform menial tasks under the watchful eye of Kinect 2.0?

Watched an episode of the Good Wife last night about some fake currency called Bitcoin, you earn on Internet “mining”. There was even a black market trade, as in X dollars = 1 bitcoin.

      Very interesting idea, I thought

    “Linda Lovelace”

May be funny but a bit in poor taste. She did not have a happy time. Whatever the accusations say, he said, she said and all that, enough is known that this woman (not her real name, but) was abused and damaged before, during and after her main movie.

    go ahead, flame away.

This is not a good idea tbh.. Now we are forced to pay with cards online and it might be more difficult for us SA users to use UK accounts now 🙁 I hope M$’s firewall is bit better than Sony’s

No, you’ll still be able to buy “cards” – but they’ll be in currency denominations, instead of Space bucks.
