Here at Critical Hit, many of the writers don’t get too much sleep. Which is probably why most of them are cranky. Not me, mind you, I have no issues nodding off at night. In fact, I would sleep for a lot longer if that annoying alarm didn’t go off in the morning. However, it appears that for those of you who are little sleep deprived and in need of finding your way to the land of the sandman a little easier, there is a solution for you – which its developer Philip is calling SmartSleep.
SmartSleep is essentially a headband that you would wear that will assist its wearer in falling off to sleep. The idea behind the technology is that it plays white noise which aids its wearer into nodding off and finding a rhythmic sleeping pattern as a result. In fact, recent pilot studies from the company indicate that the noise doesn’t just help people sleep better, but also helps with memory retention, which is handy when you want to remember exactly what your wife asked you to before falling off to sleep.
That the SmartSleep is designed for bedtime is a good thing though because a fashionably trendy item it is not. Unless you have some deep desire to wear underpants on your head and pretend that you are some sort of superhero, this is the kind of thing that you don’t want to be caught wearing. Still, I guess if you’re struggling to sleep, looking fashionable is probably not high on your priority list.
Despite this technology essentially being quite basic, Philips is looking to market this at a cost of $399.99 in the US, which is an exorbitant amount of money when you would think a simple phone app and wireless inner-ear headphones could do the same trick. Oops, perhaps I shouldn’t have given my killer idea away. This is why I am a writer and not in business, I guess.
