October is still the month of madness

No, the other October.

With Evolve joining a growing list of games who are now making 2015 the new 2014, you might be forgiven for thinking that October is now going to be an easier month for choosing games. You’d also be completely wrong, because October is still absolutely crazy with new releases.

September is already a crazy month. While Destiny is the game with the highest profile, there’s also Disney Infinity 2.0 and its various superhero figure extensions that will sap your bank account dry quicker than an alcoholic in an open bar. You can also throw the next Naruto Shippudden game on to  that list, as well as the Sims 4, FIFA 15 and Sherlock Holmes: Crimes And Punishments. But it’s the release of the Xbox One that is really going to take top priority, as that consoles will arrive with almost a year’s worth of games that you may have missed out on.

Destiny

You’ve most likely already played all of those games however, but it is nice to have a rather wide selection to choose from if you’re planning on picking up that console. Needless to say though, September is going to leave you quite broke. And then October arrives. The current line-up for that month, is still completely bonkers. Gaze upon it, and despair:

  • Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor – PC,PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4
  • Alien: Isolation – PC,PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4
  • Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel – PC,PS3, Xbox 360
  • NBA 2K15 – PC,PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4
  • WWE 2K15 – Xbox One, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PC
  • F1 2014 – PC,PS3, Xbox 360
  • Sid Meier’s Civilization Beyond Earth – PC
  • The Evil Within – PC,PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4
  • The Walking Dead Season 2 – PC,PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4
  • Assassin’s Creed Unity – PC,Xbox One, PS4
  • Lords Of The Fallen – PC,PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4
  • Just Dance 2015 – PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U
  • Forza Horizon 2 – Xbox 360, Xbox One
  • Kinect Sports Rivals – Xbox One
  • Sunset Overdrive – Xbox One
  • DriveClub – PS4
  • Fantasy Life – Nintendo 3DS

ACU

That’s 17 games, spread cross several popular consoles and the Wii U. Now, nobody is saying that you have to buy all of the games at once, but bear in mind that most new releases these days are dependent on first week sales, which means that there is going to be one hell of a push from the various publishers to get prime exposure. While the smart money is on spreading out purchases over the silly season, bear in mind that November and December will also see several releases. Here’s that list:

November

  • Call of Duty Advanced Warfare – Xbox 360, PS3, PC, PS4, Xbox One
  • Assassin’s Creed Rogue – Xbox 360,PS3
  • Skylanders Trap Team – Xbox 360,PS3, PS4, Xbox One, 3DS, Wii U
  • Far Cry 4 – Xbox 360,PS3, PC, PS4, Xbox One
  • Dragon Age Inquisition – Xbox 360,PS3, PC, PS4, Xbox One
  • Rabbids Invasion – Xbox 360,PS3, Xbox One, PS4
  • Little Big Planet 3 – PS3, PS4
  • The Crew – PC, PS4, Xbox One
  • Project Cars – PC, PS4, Xbox One

December

  • Halo: The Masterchief Collection – Xbox One
  • The Elder Scrolls Online – PS4

Madness. Simply mental. Of course, there is an upside to all of this. It may be the most mental final quarter in all of gaming, but it’s going to be one hell of a couple of months, where everybody gets to buy at least one game that satisfies them. And that’s a crazy-awesome scenario.

Now that that has been said, join me in the dodgy alley behind the Lazygamer offices where I’ll be taking bets to see which game gets delayed next, for more “polish”.

I really hope my new shoes will be delivered by the time Just Dance 2015 arrives, otherwise what was all this waiting for?

So I have from now until December to convince PS4 players that TESO is really bad? Seems like enough time.
Now if only I associated with the lowly console people I could’ve saved them from it 😉

At least December has nothing of interest, and I’ve already pre-ordered Destiny. That just leaves Borderlands the Pre-sequel, Shadow of Mordor, Far Cry 4, Little Big Planet 3… maaaybbeee Dragon Age (depending on community reviews). I think it’s doable. I should have a happy few weeks of blissful gaming from September through January

Throw in WWE2k15 as a maybe (or at least convince the missus to give it to me on christmas). I know I make fun of the Fifa fans and their copy-and-paste balls look the same games, but I have to say, I’ve only missed two WWE games…. (yes…. it’s sad)

Last year I just didn’t get round to it, and then the price dropped to R350 and I wanted to get it and then the Remastered edition was announced…. And then that came out but with the Destiny Beta I didn’t have time to finish Sniper Elite 3!! So I first had to finish that and now finally I have the time to play it…

I am really looking forward to it, I love a good story with decent acting… Like watching a good movie for 13-20 hours, with a bit of interaction from my side!!

They should really give us a license per game, and not per game PER PLATFORM…
Take (Call of Duty Advanced Warfare – Xbox 360, PS3, PC, PS4, Xbox One) for example….

If I have all the consoles…. Why do I need to buy the game for each of them?

At least you get to choose on which platform you can get it. You must have a preferred platform per genre right? That gives you choice. Just be glad they don’t release the game only on the platform that you don’t have.

Well you can…. you just need to pay for the privilege. If you buy a game for PC at R400 and they let you get the Xbox version for free, who will ever buy the Xbox version at R800? Because of the different hardware architecture, they actually need three different programming teams to develop for three different platforms. Some textures and game writing is reused which would bring down costs but they have different development costs for each platform. What I would like to see is that they reduce the price for each consecutive platform you buy it for.

I get what you are saying… But the ideal scenario will be something like PC, Xbox, PS games all cost R400 each… and then you pay for like a special edition or something that includes tokens or whatever for the other platform.. Lets make this R500.

So then when I pay R500 for CoD… Then I can play on any platform… The only other option we have is to buy the game for A platform, and then copy it on the rest of them (which should be legal, cos we did buy the game at some point)….

PS4 lineup looks a little sparse compared to the XBONE this time around. Hopefully they show more at Gamescom.

I’m only getting my PS4 this week, so I’ll more likely be playing older (read: cheaper) titles like Watch Dogs and Second Son.

Pretty much everything else can wait till 2015.
    Except Destiny.
