PS4 remote play ported to all Android devices

Remoteplay

One of the very coolest features of the Sony Xperia Z3 is that it has the ability to be used as a remote play device for your PlayStation4, all built in. It’s the sort of thing other Android devices wish  they could do. Well now, they can.

Some very clever chaps at XDA-Dev have ported the feature over from the Z3, by taking its roms and extricating the remote play goodness from it. That means that you should be able to use the feature on just about any recent Android device.

There’s a caveat though; you’ll need a rooted Android device and the knowledge of how to get stuff on it that shouldn’t really be there. Anybody who’s loaded a custom ROM on their Android devices (which should be just about everybody with an Android device) should be able to get this working.

On the one hand, it’s incredibly cool that this feature is now available to all, but on the other, it removes one of the Z3’s biggest selling points – with Sony even saying that it had no intention to bring the feature to other devices.

Remote play can be quite a cool thing. Just yesterday I was in bed nursing a hangover, playing a co-operative game of Diablo III with my kid thanks to the magic of remote play on the PlayStation Vita. If you have a Bluetooth controller and an Android device sitting about, you can do the same.

You can check out the thread here. We, however, are not to be held responsible if you’re an idiot and break your phone or tablet.

Doesn’t actually work yet. The Android remote play app is not activated yet, and will require PS4 firmware 2.0.

I’m gonna level with you guys on this one…

I get so friggin’ frustrated while playing PS4 games with Remote Play on my Vita as it is because of the way that the rear-touch is used to simulate the missing controller buttons. So frustrated.

I can only imagine how my frustration would shoot up 10 fold if I had to play games entirely using touch-screen buttons. If I had the technological prowess to be able to hook up a PS4 controller to my phone, it wouldn’t be that bad, but touch-screen gaming is the devil’s playground.

Yeah, you can hook up your PS4 controller to your phone. 😀
It also depends on the game; some games i dig remote play; others make me want to eat my own face.

The only game that I have which works nicely with Remote Play is Lego Marvel Heroes. Besides that, it’s mostly shooters which are a schlep to play on Remote Play.

Edit: Oh yeah, and fighting games are pretty slick to play with Remote Play as well.

True but Sony only does Android and they should have seen this coming. I still prefer Windows Phone over Android due to the security.

figured it wouldn’t take long for someone to figure this out. It’s just software, running on the same OS as the other phones/tabs.

really looking forward to this feature. I just can’t decide between the Z3 and the Z3 Compact yet.

    Can I clarify something.

This is a port – based on a function that does not work yet, and will not work until a Update to the original application is released?

A update to the original application could change a few things / requirements of the handset, So this port is assuming nothing changes other than the release of the remote play function?

Can the Title be changed to reflect this does not work and will not work until the Date Sony officially release the feature?

A little miss guided until i read down the post to discover it wont work until November when the remote play feature is released.
A good whole month till the date, and am pretty sure that 70% of the users who look at this, Would of in fact wiped the devices and installed a Update or new version of the ROM.

On another note, it will be something worth popping back to look at closer to the date, if this is to work, then WP OP.
