Razer officially unveils the Razer Phone

Yesterday we shared a bit of leaked information on Razer’s impending foray into the mobile phone market – but a little later on they made it all official. The Razer phone is indeed coming, and as the leaked specs suggested, the phone will sport a glorious 120hz panel, the first of its kind in a phone.

The 5.72-inch display – a Quad HD IGZO LCD – will deliver the sort of refresh rates that are usually only found on high-end desktop displays, making it one of the most advanced mobile displays, perfect for lag-free on-the-go-gaming. It uses “UltraMotion’s adaptive refresh technology synchronizes the GPU and display to remove image tearing,” which is essentially what Nvidia’s G-sync does.

To accompany its splendiferous display is some mighty audio, with a pair of Dolby Atmos-powered front-firing speakers, along with a pair of dedicated amplifiers. It’ll also have a 24-bit digital audio convertor, which will allow for audiophile grade sound out of its USB-C port, because 3.5mm audio ports are for suckers.

The other big plus is the 4000 mAh battery, which is Quickcharge 4+ enabled – allowing for plenty of game time. Beyond that, it’s a standard flagship phone – with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 that’s powering most other current flagships. It’ll come with 8GB of memory though, which is delicious.

The phone will ship with Android Nougat 7.1.1, with an Oreo update coming later. Interestingly, Razer won’t be making its own custom Android overlay, instead opting to use a gussied-up version of the popular Nova launcher instead. That’s probably a smart move. It’ll also cost mostly reasonable US$699.99 / €749.99 / £699.99. We’ve contacted the local Razer distributor for local availability, and though they say there’s nothing to share yet, they haven’t exactly shot down the idea of it hitting local shores.

Looks like a decent phone at a reasonable price, now all it needs is good mobile games 😛

Specs compared to your usual two flagship cellphones. This phone is actually well priced for the big ass battery and 120hz screen running at 2K

I like the styling, but I just can’t pay money for a phone that runs an OS called Nougat or Oreo or whatever other crap name they come up with

You realise more people own Androids which kinda makes you lot the sheep.

My 3 year old iphone is also a ton cheaper than the phone above 🙂

And my 1 year old Android phone is definitely cheaper than any iPhone out there.
A lot more people have Android phones because there are so many more of them available, with a wide spectrum of specs and prices.
For me, as someone who doesn’t need all the bells and whistles that comes with most smartphones out there, I find the prices that Apple assigns to their devices to be beyond extortion. Even the price of this Razr phone makes me shudder.
There are better things to spend money on.

I wonder how it would look if you could connect the type C to HDMI and play some GEMZ on the beeeg screen. I mean, 8GB RAM is nomnoms for a phone
