Take a gorgeously terrifying spacewalk with Adr1ft’s E3 trailer

Quick recap if you have absolutely no idea what Adr1ft is. Remember Adam “Deal with it” Orth from Microsoft? Well after that fiasco he left – and shortly after began work on a game that acts as a metaphor for the experience of dealing with that type of anger. That’s turned into Adr1ft – an intriguing, utterly gorgeous first=person experience. And it’s out soon.

There really is a reason why I’ve been watching this game closely. Running on Unreal Engine 4, the emptiness of space is beautifully captured, with the horrific scenes of a mechanical disaster acting as a contrasting backdrop to it. It seems that survival is your main goal in Adr1ft – which could easily be mistaken for an adaptation of the movie Gravity.

First-person experience isn’t just a marketing term either, and I believe it after seeing the E3 trailer above. Adr1ft looks like a solitary experience about exploration and survival, and I highly doubt some foreign alien being is going to jump scare you and for some actual confrontation. Much like games like Journey, Adr1ft will probably bombard your senses and emotions with a flurry of psychological attacks – as you scavenge all you can to hopefully see some land again.

Adr1ft is making use of the Oculus Rift and supposedly Valve’s own VR Vive (they received a dev kit last week). It’ll be out sometime this September for PC, Xbox One and PS4 – and I do hope I manage to find it somewhere at E3 next week.

E3 the week of CGI game trailers and game news that anybody can find 2 weeks prior.

Gone are the days of The Megaton.

Why the hell did Bethesda release the Fallout trailer before E3? THAT WAS A MEGATON THAT INCLUDED A NUKE.

Not CGI though. This is all in-engine, with final game assets 🙂

This looks like a game, that if done well in VR, will either make you find G_d, or need to change your shorts, for one, or perhaps both, of two different reasons…..

You cannot say there is no sound in space, it’s semantically incorrect.
You cannot HEAR sound in space, but it can still travel through it.

No other game in my LIFE has had me play till stupid o’ clock. Its been 3 weeks now and I am just as hooked as I was on day 1. Not even level 20 yet lol. Just taking my time and enjoying the sunsets. So darn beautiful. With the odd head rolling down the hill while taken another screen shot of the sunset lol

To think It took me 6 months to apply for leave during the first 2 weeks of March only to find out that the game was pushed back 🙁

I am glad I am not on leave actually, otherwise the landlord would find this corpse stinking out his flat thanks to starving to death with Geralt slowly growing his beard on the TV in the background 😛

I finished the Gwent cards quest in Velen last night, collected some Dragonroot because Elfroot is for hippies, and cleared a whole bunch of Nekker nests like a boss. I also ran away from a lvl20 Water Hag, that was less boss-like.

One lapse of defensive combat from monsters 5 levels below could spell the start of another long loading screen.

I still need to unlock this move 🙂

Exactly. Luckily the loading screen on my pc isn’t too bad between re-loads. It’s just the initial one that takes a bit to get into the game. Gives me a moment to realise that I’m actually still just sitting in my study and not really running around in Velen. 😉

            June 10, 2015 at 12:14
