Before anyone complains yes it is a slow news day ;).
Anyway back to my favourite pet hate, the ongoing format war between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. A blog on scifi.com has put together a nice list of the current points in the format war and why it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
1. Neither format matters really, it’s about getting consumers to drop DVD that really matters.
2. Toshiba has released a sub $1000 HD-DVD burner which gives it the edge in the home data storage market.
3. HD-DVD’s new U-Shop gives it yet another boost
4. Dual-format players are helping the losing side by keeping them functional.
5. Ever heard of HD-VMD? They seem to be a very compelling competitor
6. The rumour is that Microsoft may be dragging this war out to be the first to offer downloads as a viable alternative.
One thing is for certain though, Blu-Rays claims that the war would be over by this Christmas have been far of the mark. I don’t expect this war to end until after next Christmas at the earliest. Which is good news for all the PS3 owners out there who could have ended up with a lemon on their hands.

I dunno know about this one, how is HD DVD still hanging on?
The latest news is that BD is now killing HD DVD in japan too. http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=22018
So if BD is winning in every region, how is it even still a war?

@ abev, you don’t get it do you? It is not all about how much hardware is being sold, it is about hardware and software. HD-DVD currently has the highest attachment rate, with Blu-ray players having practically none.
If you look at it from that perspective Blu-ray is in no way killing HD-DVD.

Um I think you misunderstood my post.
I am talking about software sales here.
Hardware sales are actually much closer, however BD is winning that war too even though its players cost more.

Lol Xennox besides the very shifty facts in that article (on average 28 disks sold per person per player on hd dvd – bullshit)that article is nearing on a year old, to me it seems like an early smear tactic form the HD DVD camp.
Now when you see my link its from three days ago, in fact you can find a million different sources all from the last six months that proves hoe BD is destroying HD DVD in software and hardware sales!
