Who remembers the Tamagotchi? The 90s keychain virtual pet, a basic LCD screen that had several bits of digital pet caring information that was all the rage. Especially after parents had dropped some serious cash a few months back on that Casio infrared device which was nothing more than a glorified SMS sender. Well the Tamagotchi is coming back, oh nostalgic fans. Just not physically.

Namco Bandai is feeling a touch of the retros, as they’ll be reviving their cult hit as an Android and iOS app according to Digital Spy. Called Tamagotchi L.I.F.E, the app will have several mini-games, wallpapers and a retro mode that will harken back to the time that you had to clean up pixelated poop during periods at school. "The original Tamagotchi was first released 16 years ago and took the world by storm”, Bandai said in a press statement.

Everyone had a Tamagotchi and loved taking care of their digital pets. The new Tamagotchi app will feature the same gameplay you know and love with a number of exciting new features.

It’s going to be a hard sell though. With Pokémon allowing you to actually make the cute little bastards from weird animal design actually fight one another until they ‘faint’, or with numerous other properties such as My Little Pony (Gah!) and Digimon (That’s a still a thing, right?). I remember my Tamagotchi though. That plastic egg shell had a creature in it. One who somehow was always covered in poop, was fat, lazy and never moved an inch no matter how much I prodded the buttons.

Perhaps he was pining for the fjords, or simply squawked out?
