You may have noticed over the past few weeks that you were inundated with emails and notifications from pretty much every company that has your personal details. They’ve all been updating their terms and conditions to align with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) introduced by the EU last month. It is a set of regulations that was perhaps much needed in an industry which has shunned regulation for a long time and profited off their customer data in ways that many consumers felt was not right. Which I guess is what they get for just clicking “Accept” on those terms and conditions without reading them in the first place.
However the GDPR is also a very complex set of regulations which few people outside of the legal professions (and perhaps even fewer people within it) really understand. Thankfully, It looks like Peter Jefferson, a former BBC Radio personality, has a solution to make it a little easier to consume the long-winded legal documentation that is the GDPR. It will also likely be the answer to Geoff’s insomnia because Jefferson is reading the entire GDPR in a calm voice in what the app maker refers to as “bedtime stories for grown-ups” (an eclectic mix of lullabies, fairy tales, and short stories in audiobook form).
Just the thought of anyone reading legal documentation is enough to make me want to crawl under my desk with a pillow and hope my boss doesn’t notice. I can imagine it can only do wonders for sleeping at night too. Sadly, while this cure for insomnia is available for download on both Google Play and Apple App stores, it does require some money to unlock its full features. You can test this, along with some other calm features of the meditation app Calm, as part of its seven-day free trial program or listen to a sample of it below:
So, if you are struggling to sleep at night or are a sadist who actually enjoys this type of thing, then download away. Just don’t try this at work or you might end up dfgkfdg…. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
