Warner Brothers Going Blu-Ray Exclusive

Warner is currently the only major studio to still support both the Blu-Ray and HD-DVD formats since Paramount decided to be a HD-DVD exclusive studio. So obviously at a recent Blu-Ray event in the US the head of Warner (Dan Silverberg) was quizzed about Warners stance…

First he mentions that the movie 300 is the top selling Blu-Ray title of all time and is still number 1 in most markets.

He then goes on to say they cannot stay dual format forever and states..

“We can definitely talk Blu-ray,” he said. “We are committed to the format.”

So has he painted his colours on the mast now? Are Warner going to be Blu-Ray exclusive from next year? If so it will be a huge blow for HD-DVD.

However not happy to take anything lying down we await HD-DVD’s response…

A sub $100 HD-DVD player. I sure hope they have manufactured a lot of these things because they are going to sell out quickly at that price.

If it wasn’t for the Warner announcement I would be close to calling this war in HD-DVD’s favour, lets wait and see how Blu-Ray hit back now?

Sheesh, freak me out why don’t you! 😉 A little punctuation goes a long way, how about a question mark in there?

I read that yesterday, and if HD-DVD does not pull a low cost coup this Xmas season, I think Warner will go Blu-Ray.

I think $100 HD DVD players are a desperation move from toshiba, they realise that Bluray is wiping them out, even Transformers (the third biggest title of the year) couldnt topple bluray. Blu ray has yet to lose a sales week to the HD DVD camp.
As for the cheap players it could go one of two ways.
Firstly everyone could pick one up and help Toshiba back into the war or People who already see bluray as the better product (i.e. 90% of the population) pass this player off as the cheap and nasty alternative.

90% of the population? Where’d you get that fascinating stat from 😀 ? Anyhow, well, it’s obvious that the battle lines have been drawn and hopefully this showdown has an emergent winner. I don’t give a damn who wins…as long as someone wins – but, I must add, I’d much rather see Blu Ray win seeing as I already have a PS3…

Trying to make predictions right now is pointless. Novembers here, the buying season is starting. From here we watch the numbers and can draw conclusions in January.

As far as desperation goes, HD has always been cheaper to manufacture, and secondly, isn’t that exactly what Sony is doing with the PS3?

The article that this all comes from, tuotes that 92% of the people in a survey favoured Bluray.
The whole article really is good for bluray and shows why it is winning and why/how it will probably continue to do so.

Firstly the articles is about the “Blu-ray Festival” which swings it a bit, and those 92% stat’s are of Blu-Ray resellers.

The 92% isnt just bluray sellers, it is “At the Monday morning kickoff, the featured speaker was David Berman, director of Home Theater Specialists of America (HTSA), a buying consortium of 62 dealers and 800 installers with combined revenue of more than half a billion dollars a year. He said the HTSA supports Blu-ray because a member survey found 92% favoring Blu-ray over HD DVD.”

    There’s something you don’t see everyday: Blu-Ray adopters preferring….mmmm Blu-Ray.
