So all this talk of next gen, I’m sure you’ve been wondering what your poor wallet should be expecting? Microsoft finally reveal the pricing of their next generation console.
So what are the magical numbers? According to Microsoft, you can expect to pay around $499 or £429 to be a part of the next generation. Those numbers are crazy, even in dollars and pounds. The dollar for example, broke the R10 mark recently. That’s already R5k for the console overseas. Throw in our usual mark up when the console hits South African shores, and we are possibly looking at around anywhere from R5800-R6800 (those are just some estimates).
So what do you think? Are you willing to fork out that much for the new Xbox? Or will you wait for the price to come down in the years to come?

I’ll pay up to R6500 for a PS4 bundle that includes game + extra controller. More than that I’ll get a bit annoyed…. games are not cheap as it is… Look, this Xbox event was a “360” degree turnaround from the last one, well done MS, but unless Sony screws up badly tomorrow morning I’m still behind Sony all the way. All I care about are the games and the consoles gaming capability, and I believe Sony’s got the edge there.
Now off to bed so I can get up @ 2:30…

Damn that’s expensive for a Xbox. I shall stick with PS4 thank you

Maybe not, but consider a 500GB had with blu ray and WiFi direct on top of a Kinect sensor bundled with this next Gen hardware, and its totally reasonable pricing. I had hoped for $399 US but I’m still in for $499. I’ll be dumping another $240-$300 on games when they launch, too. Xbox One has some killer looking exclusives announced, and that Black Tusk studio sounded promising from earlier reports with another AAA franchise coming. Not to say PS4 is going to be less good, but I was very satisfied with Microsoft’s offering. They are still all about games.

Dance Central. Loved those games, so did a lot of other people playing them. Kinect Sports was fun. I spent a lot of time with a Home Run derby game too. Then there’s the voice commands that i enjoy.

Unless Sony show some games that match what MS showed, they will be my console of choice. But not at that price. I’ll still wait for a price cut first.

Will def wait for a price cut and more titles to be released… unless I get all giddy when it gets released and I lose control as I am prone to do

You can’t look at the USD499 price, rather look at the EUR499 price (as usual, the industry conversion for USD to EUR is 1:1 even though the Euro is worth more) or the GBP429 price for a closer estimate as to what it will cost here. Probably R6000 minimum, more likely R6500 or so.

Xbox 360 launched at $400. Xbox One incorporates TV and Kinect. Why not a $100 more? At R5k it’s reasonable. I paid R4700 for my Elite. At R6000, not so reasonable.

Like others have mentioned. We get our consoles based on European pricing. Best bet is to look at the Euro. Which puts the pricing at R6800. I’d say we looking at minimum R6999 but likely R7499

I really hope it’s not that much in SA 🙁

Yeah, that’s a bit rich, even for a new release price & including a kinect. I’ll definitely be waiting for the 2nd release “mid-life upgrade” version, assuming I get one at all.

Very expensive. Need to see what Sony have to offer though. Could be almost the same. To me at the moment the minimum 1.5mb line is the issue. For us in S.A, we would need to upgrade to a 2mb line, which will be more costs ON TOP OF the 6.5K. Ouch

Rumor has it tho that apparently Helkom is planning another upgrade (to 2mb) end of the year/beginning next year. But yes you are right, its way too expensive and to many hassles and hoops you need to jump through just to play games.

I think MS won the games announcements but Sony won the hardware announcement.
Still want to see how things pan out when the consoles actually launch here, price ect.

Don’t get your hopes up, we are only getting the Xbox One in 2014, we are not part of the 21 countries that get it in November, be smart and buy a good gaming PC, its already about 10 times better than both next gen consoles, and with about R4000 you should get a good one.

There is literally no reason to buy an xbox one. Less powerful than the PS4, more expensive, and ridiculous DRM.
