The Division looks great on PC

Listen, games looking better on PC when compared side by side with console isn’t exactly news. With the amount of money that is lovingly poured into some of the best rigs around, you’d be disappointed if this wasn’t the cases. But every now and then there are some titles that push past the point of being a port with a few extra bells and whistles. Sometimes a PC port really stands tall on its own two feet.

Ubisoft might not be known for falling into this category with their chequered history with PC, but The Division is the exception in every sense of the word.

A new trailer featuring 1080p/60FPS gameplay straight from the upcoming MMO proves it. Additional features such a volumetric fog, dynamic global illumination and higher resolution textures really bring the bleak New York disaster to life. Walking around the deserted streets is more a treat on the eye than a dangerous venture, with the added fluidity of the higher framerate making those frequent firefights a little more pleasant to engage with.

Having played The Division beta on PC, I too can attest to the game’s quality with enough power thrown at it. It really stand in a class of its own when compared to console (which looks fantastic already), with so many of the little details combining to make a more dynamic, engrossing world. It’s also fairly good with scaling, offering a plethora of options to tweak the experience down to the stability and quality you’d like on PC.

The same, surprisingly, can also be said for console. Xbox One and PS4 both feature some limited graphical options to tweak the experience to your liking, which is more than a touch above what all other console games offers. Visual fidelity is important to The Division it seems, and Ubisoft is doing a great job across all platforms. It’s out on March 8th.

  1. Yeah, but this game is REALLY frikken CPU hungry… my machine was getting pretty frikken warm during the beta. Ottokie and a few others reported the same thing.

I hope it doesn’t stay that way.

It’s was maxing my GPU and sitting at around 70% CPU usage. Does not sound like a lot, but the amount of heat it releases is insane 😛

Might have to add that I use a 144Hz screen, and that usually pulls a lot more CPU and GPU compared to 60fps

My overclock was fully stable (4790k @ 4.6ghz) Was getting 75C max temps in other games but with the beta it went to 70C stock clocks and that’s with h100i on max speed and dust cleaned out of my case. It was crashing on 4.6ghz 1.25V-1.275V. So I say this game is very demanding on the cpu and my 98ti HOF went over 80C and never saw that in any game. Normally hovers around 60-70C maybe sometimes can go 75C but that’s worste case. This was playing 1440p 110Hz

This is honestly the 1st time I’ve considered moving to PC. Not just for the look of it, it just seems like the PC version will have a little edge to it that consoles won’t be able to replicate.

It releases very soon, take a few days after the release to check out some streams, or just ask Vamps or Me what we think. If a game sucks we are not going to lie 😛

Experience I had was probably from my side, but i had this problem where i shoot and 5 seconds later i see the damage score pop up with my health dropping to zero as well. So like i say, it’s probably from my side, either internet side or server side.

That was just lag. I played in the Closed beta, and had absolutely no problems with that. So, I guess what I’m saying is, the game, weeks ago, was fully capable of connecting me to its servers and producing virtually lag-free shooting. So, whoever’s connection it was (yours or the server’s), it was a connection issue that should be ironed out by release (or maybe the week of, at least?) if it’s not your end that’s the culprit. 😛

and I been missing out majorly for a while now. Im still planning my mini ITX gaming/Multimedia build, but Im obviously limited in GPU choices. Well I can only buy one GPU. The 970 GTX Mini. Goes for about R7890 at the moment lol Im wanting to build one that can fit comfortably in the living room that can be used for watching series, movies, anime, gaming and that im able to use for work as well.

I’ll stick to my PS4. the simple truth is you will only see a difference if you put the game side by side. On the flip side, there is Uncharted 4 that is just absolutely mind blowing and out of this world insanely gorgeous.

Actually you can see it even if its not side by side.

The textures looks washed out and blurry of the bat. I notice it every time I play on a PS4 or Xbone, very washed out textures compared to PC.

Not to mention the lack of detail on character models.

That may be true, but because I never play anything on PC I have nothing to compare it with. So the game on PS4 through my eyes looks incredible.

I don’t think anyone’s saying the game looks bad on a console, or that everyone SHOULD be playing it on PC. Just, if you’re trying to say there’s barely a difference, that would be inaccurate, as there’s actually quite a significant difference. Just for what it’s worth.

lol uncharted uncharted uncharted about the only game PS4 owners can mention all the time. I’m sure ps$ will be limited to 30FPS and please don’t start saying your eyes can’t see past 30fps as I can see it when i went from 60hz to 110hz. If you can’t see that then you need to get your eyes tested

Why mention the ps4 only ?

The Xbone cant even handle 30fps at 1080p so they have to downscale the res to 900p ?? I guess to a blind Xbone fanboy that is acceptable ?

        Master Race out.

Yeah, pretty much how PC gamers went on and on and on about crysis, the big difference is crysis is a snore fest at best but when PS4 gamers go on about Uncharted (and here is the beauty of it all) when this game releases, graphics will take a back seat. The fact is even if you can afford a high end PC it just does not have an exclusive that even comes close to a last gen Uncharted even with its lack of 60fps, not to mention TLOU, MGS4, GOW3, KZ, Infamous etc.

Dont worry though, when TLOU2 and GOW4 is announced we will go on and on about them along with Uncharted. But if it bothers you so much that 60fps is a must have in games then I feel sorry for you, I really do, I will gladly sacrifice 60fps for quality of gameplay. “Rusted Faith” had good go at consoles talking about how crap consoles are and whose shit smells best and so on but the truth is when it comes to quality of gaming and gameplay and first party devs the likes of ND and Santa Monica Studio the PC is a very very distant what ever position PC is in now. So keep your 60fps while I will be enjoying the brilliance of Uncharted4 at 30fps 😉

Soooo how is Arma 3, World of Warcraft, Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, Dota 2, Counter Strike Go, Star Craft 2, League of Legends working out on console for you ? I can go on if you want me to …

Mid range pc’s can run games at 1080p over 60fps at settings that will make the poor consoles melt.

But hey dont let facts get in the way of your bullshit theory.

Star Citizen? Really? thats the best you got? thats disappointing. Im not gonna get started on how the character animation look like stick figures running around because you just proved my point, you would rather have 60fps than a good game and as far as your little list of games go, dont waste my time, show me something that can be classified as on par with Rachet and Clank then we can move onto the big boy games.

There is nothing theoretical about what I said, a game is good or its not, no matter how many numbers you throw at me. Journey is a two hour indie game on the PS3 and it is still better than anything on that list of yours. No matter how much you polish a turd, it remains a turd.

I’ve only seen it on PC (pre-ordered and played the beta on my new rig), but, if you ask other people, everyone’s all whining about how terrible it looks on consoles. I figure most of it is just people who lack the capacity to share honest, indivisualized opinions about things jumping on the “Yeah, remember Watchdogs’ downgrade? This is just that again! EFF UBISOFT!” bandwagon, because it’s cool to do or something. *shrug*

Has no one in the last 10 years realized that ANY game with a PC version gets a PC trailer? You think they showed off Battlefield 4 from an Xbox 360 in its trailer? Nope.

    Silly humans.
