YouTube accidentally bans BattleBot videos for animal cruelty

YouTube gave us a glimpse of our future a few days ago. Not by actually showing us videos of the world all burnt up and falling to pieces, because we could probably look outside our windows for that. But in perhaps predicting the strong relationship humans are going to be forming with their robot buddies that are going to be akin to our relationship with pets. Their algorithms accidentally identified a series of BattleBot videos as animal abuse and subsequently banned them.

The news was initially brought to attention when Jamison Go received a notification from YouTube about some of his videos being flagged for review as it violated its policies against animal cruelty. Something which affected other users as well whose videos were also flagged for the same reason.

According to The Verge, the videos were taken down in error and weren’t the result of some new policy relating to robot on robot violence, though you can only imagine that in a few years’ time when our robot overlords are in the midst of rising up and ascending to power, that cruelty to robots will most definitely be a thing.

So, call it a bizarre coincidence or perhaps some form of a hidden cryptic message sent from the future giving us an indication that robots are not going to take too kindly to our need for violence and robotic bloodlust, but either way, consider this a note for the future: Stop the abuse of robots
