Ah, Gingers… those soulless devils flame haired creatures, whose temperament often matches their plumage. Case in point: Merida, the Scottish princess in Disney and Pixar’s new animated film, Brave, who is as fiery of spirit as they come, apparently.

She should thank her lucky haggis that they didn’t celebrate Kick-A-Ginger day back in medieval Scotland.

See, I told you she was proper Ginger! Also that right there is every parent who has ever brushed their daughter’s unruly hair’s worst nightmare!

Official synopsis:

Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor. Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin, surly Lord Macintosh and cantankerous Lord Dingwall. Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.

It’s a little known fact that I was a ginger once. Yes, when I was younger I was red of hair. Luckily, like most childhood maladies, I outgrew it, with my hair getting darker as I got older.

But I still remember my fiery roots, so once a year I go around to my local Ginger shelter and help out. I give them their food, take a couple of them out for walks, give them baths and once – believe it or not – I even hugged one.

I’m all heart, me.

Let’s hope this film will put Pixar back where it belongs, at the top of the animation pictures stack of companies! The last movie was quite disappointing, and its been a while since they have created a whole new IP.
