MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU! Yes, it’s Star Wars Day, but it didn’t get off to the best start today thanks to a certain “erratic” director’s not so fantastic behaviour. But fret not, as we actually have some good news for Star Wars fans this time around!

Vanity Fair will be featuring the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on their cover, photographed by the legendary Annie Liebowitz. And to promote this event, the magazine has unveiled a new behind-the-scenes video and several pics of the photoshoot (via AICN). And instead of just telling us which cast member can do the best “Blue Steel” – my money is totally on R2-D2 – it’s also given us our first clear glimpse of Adam Driver in costume.

While he’s not wearing the face mask we’ve glimpsed thus far, this all but confirms that Driver is indeed playing the villainous Kylo Ren, the mysterious cloaked figure seen wielding that distinctive crossguard lightsaber in the first trailer.

What’s more, the pics also give us our first look at Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o on the set, and she appears to be decked out in motion-capture gear (notice the tracking dots on her face and grey bodysuit). This would imply that her character – whatever it is – is actually fully-CG. Very, very interesting.

Here are the rest of the pics – featuring John Boyega’s Finn, Daisy Ridley’s Rey, Harrison Ford’s Han Solo, Peter Mayhew’s Chewbacca and a couple of new Stormtroopers – as well as the full behind-the-scenes video that they’ve been taken from.

Vanity Fair has promised that when the full photoshoot is officially unveiled later in the week, it will include looks at previously unseen characters, including whomever Gwendoline Christie is playing.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens also stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Max von Sydow, Domhnall Gleeson, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong and Miltos Yerolemo. It is directed by JJ Abrams, who also co-wrote the script with Lawrence Kasdan. It is scheduled for release on December 18, 2015.
