Spoiler alert: Battlefield 3 is going to sell really, really well. EA announced that pre-orders for their upcoming large scale war shooter are through the roof and all this does is prove to us that having a great looking game sells itself and also…

… making your good looking game go head to head with the behemoth of a rival franchise may have been a very good marketing move from EA.

So how much are we talking here? Tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands? Millions?

So no kidding around then… Battlefield 3 has blown Bad Company 2’s (what we have to assume as 125,000) pre-orders away as EA have announced that Battlefield 3 is already sitting on an absolutely staggering 1.25 million pre-orders. Not bad considering that it means that it has matched one of the most pre-ordered games of all time – last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 did indeed seem like a slow starter though, as friend recommendations and price drops over time eventually brought the total sales of DICE’s online console war shooter up to a very impressive 9 million units sold. Not bad… not bad at all.

With that in mind, it’s easy to see that with the game looking fantastic as well as the market being bigger, Battlefield 3 has the potential to punt out some really, really high sales figures over its lifespan.
