A picture may be worth a thousand words, but clearly a nearly two-minute long trailer is even better (and actually worth about 26664000 words, if my frame-rate maths* is correct). Following on from Friday’s reveal of 7 new pics, Disney have unveiled the first trailer for their feature film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Into the Woods, which sees a who’s who of Brothers Grimm fairy tale characters getting caught up in a mashed-up version of their classic tales.

Unfortunately, if you came here with the expectation of hearing some of the show’s most famous musical numbers being belted out by well-piped actresses like Emily Blunt and Anna Kendrick, then you’ve come to the wrong place/trailer.
If you’re just here for Johnny Depp(‘s hand) once again in a crazy costume or Meryl Streep with the worse case of bedhead you’ve ever seen, then step right up.

Into the Woods is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests.

This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.

Into the Woods is directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago) and also stars  James Corden, Chris Pine, Lilla Crawford, Daniel Huttlestone, Tracey Ullman, Christine Baranski, MacKenzie Mauzy, Billy Magnussen, Tammy Blanchard, Lucy Punch, Richard Glover, Frances de la Tour, Simon Russell Beale, Joanna Riding and Annette Crosbie. It is scheduled for release Christmas Day, 2014.
