Just before E3, CD Projekt RED and Microsoft were very happy to announce that one of the year’s best RPG’s, The Witcher 2, would be making its way to the Xbox 360 later this year. Unlike Rise of the White Wolf, it’s still coming – but it’s been delayed somewhat.

The company says it’s mostly to do with the ongoing legal battle with Namco over the publishing rights to the title. Namco published the PC version of the game, with rights for the console version having been given to THQ – but Namco wants the whole pie, not just a slice.

Studio boss Adam Kicinski says the “The extra time will allow us to polish the title to perfection, so that the game offers an ideally balanced, fantastic experience to gamers. As the launch of the game approaches, we will be sharing more details how it will be released on Xbox 360. I trust that despite the release date shift, players will be satisfied with what we are planning for them.”

The delay means The Witcher 2 won;t see its Q4 2011 release, putting the game out of direct competition with RPG juggernaut Skyrim, and in to competition instead with RPG juggernaut Mass Effect 3 in Q1 next year.  Oh dear.
