Conclusion:

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is what you make of it and those looking for a game where they can really cruise around will be drawn to it, but for anyone looking for a racing game with solid physics and an exciting career mode are better off looking elsewhere.

As a really big fan of the first Test Drive Unlimited I was very excited for the sequel but after playing it I just can’t help but feel a little disappointed. It feels too familiar and dated and while this sort of game may have held up really well in 2006, it feels like it just can’t keep up with the amazing competition that’s out there, even with it’s online twist.

Test Drive Unlimited isn’t bad, it just isn’t great either but real car enthusiasts will still get a kick out of cruising around the ocean freeways in a slick and powerful sports car.

Scoring

Gameplay: 7.5

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is great as a driving game, but not so great as a racing game. Cruising around enjoying the drive will always have its appeal but when it comes to being a racer it falls short in many ways.

Design and Presentation: 7.5

The engine feels dated, the sound can be questionable and the voice acting is horrendous. For a game that revolves around the lifestyles of the rich and famous, it really could use some reconstructive surgery of its own.

Value: 8.0

Quantity is the areas where Test Drive Unlimited comes out on top. With a large amount of career races, online races, community challenges and driver missions there is a ton to do. Add to that the ability to explore and take photos for experience, create clubs, cruise around with friends and hunt down wrecks, there really is a ton of stuff to do.

Overall: 7.5/10

Test Drive Unlimited isn’t a large improvement over the first game, but it’s still a decent game in its own right. What it lacks in quality it does make up for in quantity though and manages to fall into the “good” category, but only just.
