So those lucky guys in America are coming up to their first week that the PlayStation 4 has been in retail and the early complaints about the systems lack of reliability don’t seem to be going away, in fact they appear to be gaining traction.
There are three consistent complaints at the moment which are:
PlayStation 4 shows no video
If you plug your PS4 in and there just isn’t any video showing on the screen then you are probably sitting with a HDMI port error. According to reports this is quite a common occurrence but one that is easy enough to fix.
Look inside your HDMI port and you may see a little piece of metal sticking up, you need to take a pin and push this back down and then reinsert your HDMI cable. If the cable doesn’t go all the way in still then you are going to want to take your console back for a replacement. If the HDMI cable goes all the way in and you still have no video then the problem is likely related to something else.
Red Light of Doom
Still looking for that catchy title but the second issue that is cropping up everywhere is a report where the light on the front of the PlayStation turns red and nothing else happens.
Apparently this is due to the PlayStation 4 over heating and could be resolved easily enough by simply ensuring your PlayStation 4 has enough room around it for the fans to circulate the air properly.
Blue Light and blank screen
The third issue is the most worrying at the moment. This is when the light on the PlayStation 4 is blue and yet there is nothing on the screen at all. This is when you have confirmed it isn’t the aforementioned HDMI problem.
Sony has a prescribed help page, but there is no known fix at the moment. What is more worrying is that there are reports that the Foxconn manufacturers may have been subjected to internal sabotage. According to a forum post that has since been removed, the interns at Foxconn decided to strike back at Foxconn for how badly they are treated by ensuring that PlayStation’s from their manufacturing lines would have issues.
And Google translate turns that into
“One such high-end products, this is Sony and Microsoft unite against Apple key step, but unfortunately a small Japanese handed it to Foxconn, Foxconn brought them over to our group of interns North believe that it is wrong, this time it really wrong, Foxconn did not treat us as human beings, we do not see it as a high-end product, in addition to cope or deal with, these products can reboot is our highest expectations, ha ha, etc. ps4 9 ? 9 officially listed, it is the Sony losses and the closure of Foxconn day! ! Common pray!”
Jumbled translation aside it is quite obvious what the quote is saying; and i smacks of internal sabotage. possibly relating not only to poor intern working conditions within Foxconn, but also increasingly disruptive Sino-Nipponese relations.
Other posters on the same forum are reporting PS4’s arriving with missing pieces, missing screws and one even being shipped with its hard drive outside of the shell.
Making things worse at the moment are reports that Amazon are doing a shoddy job of packaging the PS4’s for delivery with this image showcasing how little effort the packers are putting in to ensure your high end entertainment device will arrive safely.
The air pockets aren’t going to do much use like that.
Now it is still early days and it’s impossible to really say if there is a problem or not but this is also how the Xbox 360’s RROD reports started. Only time will tell if Sony has released a half baked product or not but by the time it releases in South Africa next month we should know for sure.
One thing going for Sony at the moment is their incredible history of manufacturing excellence, I’m still leaning towards these being isolated incidents but at the same time I’m not rushing to get a launch day console anymore. Mainly because I’m broke but also because of this…okay no it’s because I’m broke.

Still picking up my console in December. If it’s broken I send it back till I get one that works, easy. Sure there may be issues. Heck most of the reviews on Amazon was positive and those that were negative were for trolling purposes only.
I know you don’t like Sony and are loyal to Microsoft and I’m sure your console will be released in South Africa before the world ends so don’t worry about that. I must also commend you on all the effort you took to assemble all this negative information.

Yeah, What the Master race does not realise is most of us console fanboys are also part of the Master Race, I just got sick of always sitting in front of my god dam pc. All day at work, All night when I got home from work……I remember, In a space of three months I bought three 6k plus cards cause I was worried I was missing out. In retrospect, I could have bought a lounge suit or a nice fridge. What the master race is oblivious to is they are constantly upgrading and throwing money down the drain for a slightly higher rez, More assets on screen, All superficial nonsense that adds no value to the game. Xbone won’t overheat. PS4 tested as “not getting hotter than current gen consoles”. This was tested at 23 degrees ambient only! Now Imagine a nice warm day in Africa……. that small PS4 unit with power brick built into it will melt faster than an igloo in hell!

With over a million units sold, you will have loads of complaints, and those will still be a very low percentage. Show us some stats first 🙂 A few early rumors about some emo kid in a factory won’t change my opinion that the PS4 will be a high quality item like the rest of Sony’s products.
We should have some solid information within a few weeks, if stats show that the PS4 is crap, I’ll be the first to gooi ‘n vloermoer… Trust me, but until then, no reason to worry. The Microsoft guys should be the once worried about history repeating itself.

The real question is whether a company can ride that early success to continued sales through the next spring and beyond, when consumers have tried out the system at their friends’ houses and gotten a better idea of what its software lineup actually brings to the table. In short, selling out on launch day is a necessary, but it’s not a sufficient condition for a console’s medium- and long-term success.

-live game streaming on ustream free for 30 days to 5 viewers, then 100$-1,000$ a month after lol. (twitch is free though and works good)
-day 2 and i only have 300/500 gigs available. by the end of the week im going to be in trouble lol
-data problems, my ps4 started rebuilding its database out of nowhere for no reason, then i put battlefield in and it shut off followed by a corrupting save file losing everything
-save files are pretty big compared to before (around 20m, takes long to copy and backup)
-you can see ps3 friends online but they cannot see ps4 friends online.
-friend has signed on and off notification gone
-usb use gone (can use for saved games only)
-cant store video, no video file support (cant store/play mp4s avis etc) (you can store recorded share option in game footage, but you cannot transfer it to usb)
-cant store mp3 (supposenly adding later but will they add videos?)
-cant play cd’s -no cd player
-you cant sort trophys, per game, or all. its one way and thats it. you cant sort by earned date, earned, not earned, you cant do anything
except view them the way they are listed there is no changing the view at all)
-friends list seperate tab and no status bubbles/comments above names
-games are gigantic installs (30gigs to 100gigs mandatory game installs i downloaded b4 the entire day on my 60m connection)
-100 gigs gone at launch you get 408 gigs not 500 gigs
-themes are gone
-cant determine which friends are on ps3 or ps4 its just a plain generic list with no details
-doesnt say when someone was last online, so if someone hasnt signed on in 5 months you wont know to delete them. you can store more friend though but why make it harder to shuffle through?
– no 3d support (havent tested but thats what i heard)
– no chord when buying a controller
– no external hard drive support (same as usb use gone above)
– controller r2 and l2 feels like triangles spearing your fingertips and most games are making r2 mandatory to fire instead of R1 as a selling point for the controller. they also WONT let you change the button configuration to fire on R1. Controller hurts middle finger badly.
– no pause menu or select button, there is a share and options button. the options button will pause the game sometimes depending on the game
– there is audio in the controller but most games dont seem to be using it at all
-avatars are the same free ones from ps3 that came out in 2006
-cant load a list of your premium avatars from ps3
-cannot pause downloads
– sharing video file, if file fails at any point there is no resume. (i was uploading a short 200m video of about 3 minutes of playin and it
failed had to start all over which by that point i had lost interest. this is a cool feature but you can only upload it to facebook and the
files are pretty big so unless you have something spectacular like 100 kills in a round then all your doing is taking up gigs worth of
background memory.you can though edit them to be smaller but you can only edit one snippet)
– cannot organize downloaded games. might not be a issue at first but what happens when you have 50 games in a year and there all over the place and you cant categorize them at all. on ps3 you had folders you could make and move files around. there is no folders games are just thrown into one section like the ps store
– sub accounts cant use share option? (havent tested this, heard it)
-photos seem to be gone, no photo tab, cant import photos no more, i dont think you can send photos either in a message anymore. for this i mean usb import of photos. you can take screenshots of the game but you cant import a guy grilling a chicken on a ps3 to send to friends in a message as a joke or any merry christmas pictures
-cannot turn the light off on the controller. may not seem like a big issue at first but wait till it flashes in your face a thousand times
like a strobelight it gets annoying fast!!!
-no backwards compatability
– no blu ray remote support (not a big issue for me but others seem to be really mad at this)
– only 2 usb slots which sucks but since you cant use it for anything anyways it dont matter at this point
-unstable ps plus, disconnections and being booted to the menu. cant play certain games offline. if were paying for a internet connection to our cable company then theres no reason why we should have to pay sony to be online. if were paying for dedicated connection then that proved false on launch day with the disconnections.
-price tag, if all the above features are removed then why is the ps4 more then the ps3? it should be the same price as a wii when you think about it they do the same thing. all the media has been removed and you only have a gaming system and quite frankly there is no games that knock my socks off right now.
– dlna support gone, media servers gone
-controls make your hands sweat more then usual

Sorry, that is a bit too long for me to read, but I have scanned a couple of the “issues” you have, and to be fair, a lot of the things you have listed Sony said before the console launched. You had the chance to know exactly what you were buying. Also, Sony said that they are investigating adding the media capability later.
Yes, you do have a couple of legitimate points, but I feel for the most part you are just nitpicking.

Mine works just fine. I will say that anyone who gets one should wait to play Battlefield 4. It is loaded with bugs that cause consistent crashing, and the corruption of save files. Having said that, I love playing Black Flag, and Injustice. There is the added bonus of sharing my skills with all my friends whether it’s over Facebook, Twitter, Ustream, or Twitch.

I have a PS4 and am not having any of these problems. I feel bad for those that do, but hey, that’s what a one year warranty is for. Just send it in. Sabotage, Nuclear War, Zombie Apocalypse, who knows what will happen. Xbox better have their crap together because they’re next in line on the PR chopping block. lol Please excuse me, I have to get back to AC4, Blackbeard needs me.

Only minor thing going on with my ps4 is the controller’s R2 button makes an annoying sound when you press it (i play fifa and bf4, both use R2 a lot) other than that it’s perfect. I got it through amazon and yes the packaging was shitty haha, also they didnt even ask for a signature they just left it under the mat…

Well I looked to this article because I want to save and work towards getting a PS4 but its expensive like any new console so I wanted to see if my idea was warranted that this console and its games might have problems at first so I would be worth it to save up money for it and purchase it once they got all the issues and bugs out of the way.
So that when the dust clears that the console sells for less I have more money and I get a console free of tech issues.
The only people who won’t win in this scenario are the guys who crafted it and are being treated with insufficient care
