Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

If you hadn’t heard, our sister site, LazyGamer, sent Darryn to the US of A last week, because apparently Lazygamer has no sympathy for Americans. Darryn was involved in some super secret gaming business, but while there he managed to find a store on the famed Santa Monica Boulevard that had the Superman costume from Man of Steel and was kind enough to snap some up-close pics of it. What he did to it after that, I’d rather not repeat since this is a family friendly show, but you can probably get all the details from the police if you were so inclined.

There’s been much talk on the net lately about whether or not Robert Downey Jr would be donning the armour again as Iron Man, with the “not” part of that statement mainly revolving around contract negotiations. But it seems he has another reason: the Robert Downey Jr business is looking to expand.

“I’d go start another one tomorrow, but it’s not tomorrow. And there are a lot of other considerations. But I also don’t like the idea of leaving people hanging or leaving people in the lurch.”

“My intent is to launch another franchise, independent of any that I can even imagine right now. My intent is to dominate the playing field for as long as I can, with my own challenges, with myself.”

Acclaimed auteur Terrence Mallick is infamous for his reclusive ways, and he’s just as protective over his film projects as he is over his personal life. Which is why we still have no real idea what his latest film, Knight of Cups, is actually about despite it premiering at Cannes this week. Luckily, we just got our first hint through this first officially released image that tells us that at some point in the movie, Bruce Wayne and Queen Amidala will cavort on the beach.

"Knight of Cups"

If an assassin is really good, you should never know when he’s coming for you. Which means that I now have no idea what to make of the news that the Michael Fassbender starring and produced Assassin’s Creed adaptation has been officially scheduled for release on May 22, 2015.

Yes, 2015. Alongside The Avengers 2, Star Wars: Episode VII, The Fantastic Four, Finding Dory, Ant-Man and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. Be still my geeky heart.

Oh, would you look at the time?! It seems that it’s semi-naked-hot-blue-girl o’clock! And right on cue, here’s the first shot of Jennifer Lawrence all painted and prosthetic’d up as Mystique on the set of X-Men: Days of Future Past. The pic comes courtesy of director Bryan Singer’s tweets, and he also added this caption to it.

@BryanSinger: “Jennifer Lawrence as a vengeful Mystique.”

Then, apparently to restore balance to the hotness force, Singer tweeted this image of himself with Peter Dinklage, who is sporting a mustache that would make any 1970’s porno actor proud. Unfortunately, epic facial hair still doesn’t help to uncover exactly which villain it is that Dinklage will be playing.

Daniel Radcliffe has done an outstanding job on distancing himself from his most famous character, Harry Potter, and no role probably more so than in Alexandre Aja’s upcoming weird-filled sort-of horror movie Horns. I mean yes, there was that time he ran around on stage naked, pretending to fall in love with his horse, but in this one he wakes up from a heavy party to find his girlfriend killed and he’s grown horns that can make people do what he tells them.

And apparently that weirdness is just a small part of what’s to come.

“The first third starts off like some bizarre absurdist comedy, and then it becomes this epic tragic love story and revenge saga with elements of horror, fantasy, religion and everything else you can imagine along the way. And rock’n’roll, that’s another important influence in the movie. I saw it the other day and I do think that Alexandre has done an amazing job.”

Stephen King’s Dark Tower series is a story about as epic as they come, and an adaptation of it could never be anything but. Luckily though, that’s exactly what producer Brian Grazer and director Ron Howard had in mind when they proposed their highly idea of adapting the books into a series of big budget feature films as well as a TV series to span the gaps between the films. Unfortunately, their ambition exceeded their money, and the whole thing fell apart.

But now, its being reported that a mysterious investor from Silicon Valley who wants to remain anonymous, has offered to finance the whole thing as long as Grazer and Howard stick to their original epic idea. All I can say, is Thankee Sai.

So hey, you may have heard that I like comics. A lot. I may even have written up a few ideas on which comic book movies I’d like to see. Mark Waid and Alex Ross’s post-superhero epic “Kingdom Come” is not on those lists, and that’s because I really thought it may not ever be pulled off properly. Apparently the guys at AListProductions don’t hold my opinion in as high regard as I assume everybody else does, as they’ve made this fan-sourced trailer for a what a potential adaptation could look like.

Apparently it could look like superhero porn parody with all the sexy bits removed. That being said though, they do nail (pun not intended) a couple of the comic’s most iconic images.

And the Hunter Killer musical chairs game continues! Originally intended as a directing vehicle for Pierre Morel (Taken), the adaptation of Don Keith and George Wallace’s submarine thriller, “Firing Point”, was then offered to director Phillip Noyce (Salt)Who then passed on it and doomed it to shelfwarmer status until Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) got interested. He even brought on actor Gerard Butler to star… and then the two of them promptly went off and did Olympus Has Fallen instead.

So now the task has apparently fallen to Charlie’s Angels and Terminator Salvation director and hater of vowels, McG, whose just wrapped up production on the Kevin Costner thriller, Three Days to Kill. The story for Hunter Killer is said to follow a submarine captain who teams with a Navy SEAL team to rescue the Russian president when hes taken hostage on a sub during a political coup.

With all the buzz coming from his recent roles, Michael B. Jordan is on fire. And soon he may really be on fire if the rumour mill is to be believed. Jordan’s name has been linked to the role of Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch in his Chronicle director Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot. Jordan’s also heard these rumours, and he really likes the way they sound.

“Everyone knows [Josh and I are] good friends. If it happened I would be ecstatic. I’d love to be a part of it.”

Of course there is one issue that might just be counting against him, according to some: his skin colour. Jordan is of course, African Amercian, while Johnny Storm has always been a white boy. But Jordan doesn’t see this as too much of a hurdle to overcome.

“Things change. It’s 2013 right now. The characteristics of The Human Torch are his name is Johnny Storm, he’s charismatic, and he’s a playboy. That’s it.”

Personally, I like Jordan and think he could great in the role, black or white.

You remember Patton Oswalt’s gloriously epic Star Wars: Episode VII filibuster that he improvised for an episode of “Parks & Recreation”? You know, the one that threw just about every single geek franchise together to spectacular result? Well, it’s been about a month since then and it’s finally happened. Somebody – by the name of Isaac Moores – has finally made his geeky rant a reality by creating this hilarious animated version of it.
