Lee Daniels went from making a straight to DVD Cuba Gooding Jr movie (who hasn’t?) to making a big awards splash with Precious (based on the novel Push by Sapphire – I think I’m legally obligated to add that every time). And then he pretty much did nothing for the next couple years. But now that he’s wrapped filming on The Paperboy, aka the movie where Nicole Kidman pees on Zac Efron, he’s quickly moved on to his next project, The Butler, looking at the life of long time White House servant Eugene Allen.
Now we finally get our first look at Forrest Whittaker in the title role, as well as one of the most famous presidential couples he attended to.
OK, so we can’t really see much of Forrest Whittaker except that we can definitely now say that he has the outline of a man and that there’s about a 40% certainty that he isof the black persuasion. At least we can clearly see that James Marsden and Minka Kelly look perfectly cast in their roles as John F Kennedy and his wife Jackie. I can’t say I agree with JFK’s choice of bedroom footwear though.
With production ramping up, expect to see more of the film being revealed soon, especially the star studded cast portraying the 7 other Presidential families which Allen also served as butler in the White House, as well as a host of other famous real life political figures such as Robin Williams and Melissa Leo as Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower, Alan Rickman and Jane Fonda as Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Liev Schrieber as Lyndon B. Johnson, John Cusack as Richard Nixon, Nelsan Ellis as Martin Luther King Jr, and many more.
