I think the Mayans got it right, 2012 is the year the world ends. Contrary to popular belief though, I don’t think it will be natural disasters, alien invasions, zombie outbreaks or even the soul destroying presence of the Kardashians that eventually punches humanity’s ticket.
No, as anybody who has seen the movie release schedule for the year can attest to, I think we’re all going to die due to massive brain aneurysms as a result of too much exposure to raw, undiluted awesomeness.
For example, just feast your eyeballs on this trailer for Rian Johnson’s Looper, which sees Joseph Gordon-Levitt trying to hunt down Bruce Willis, who just so happens to be himself from 30 years in the future.
Damn, that looks good. JGL’s makeup and mannerisms seem to mimic Bruce just enough to be convincing without coming across as an impersonation. Also, judging by that trailer, we certainly won’t have any shortage of action scenes, but based on Johnson’s prior work I am certain that we will have a great story to go along with it.
In the futuristic action thriller “Looper,” time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels
