Yeah, I’m an unabashed Mario fan – so things like this make me all giddy inside. Even though the 2D Mario formula really hasn’t changed very much since the release of Super Mario Bros on the NES in 1985, the games are still a blast to play. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, I guess.
Here’s a new trailer for the coin-collect-a-thon New Super Mario Bros 2 for the 3DS. It’s coming in the middle of next month – and for the first time in a 2D handheld Mario, will feature co-operative gameplay – with one playing as Mario, and the other as the downtrodden, sadfaced, lanky Luigi – throughout the entire campaign. New Super Mario Bros 2’s biggest differentiating factor is that this time around it’s all about the coins – with numerous power-ups giving our beloved plumber King Midas’ touch.
New Super Mario Bros 2 will be available exclusively for the 3DS on August 17. The 3DS XL used to demo it in the below trailer will be available this weekend.
