Play Killzone: Shadow Fall for free until next year

PlayStation Plus subscribers have been getting hooked up recently, with several high-profile games currently available for free download in the EU region – including DmC: Devil May Cry and Borderlands 2 for the PS3.

If you have a PlayStation 4, though, there’s another perk for this coming weekend. From December 28-31, the multiplayer component for Killzone: Shadow Fall will be free to play for all PS4 owners – essentially the best part of the game. Preloading is available immediately for those who want to get started the minute it unlocks, so get ready to close out the year with some sci-fi multiplayer mayhem.

If there’s anything we can say about Killzone: Shadow Fall, it’s that the game is awfully pretty – a great way to usher in the new generation of consoles. It’s got that 1080p 60fps sheen for you and your friends to gawk at. The single-player campaign is decent but does leave something to be desired, with pacing issues particularly towards the latter half of the game. But while the campaign is good but not great, the multiplayer gameplay is quite addictive and worth returning to again and again. Be sure to check out our review if you’d like to know all of our thoughts in greater detail, but there’s no reason to hesitate when the content is free this weekend.

One thing to note: if you download Killzone: Shadow Fall in order to play the free multiplayer weekend, the single-player content will download as well, but it will not be playable. But hey – if you love it and decide to buy it, at least it’s already fully downloaded, right?

Killzone really is pretty and the level of detail is stunning. If only they released Crysis 3 on the PS4. The multiplayer is fun but download Warframe so long if you haven’t yet. That’s a really fun title to play once you get the hang of the game.

I did have a go at warframe, just couldn’t get into it, it felt very…. unreal tournamentish… if you get my meaning, very fast and fluid, but not really my cup-o-tea.

Have you tried War Fighter, I think I’ll spend some more time on that one, love the war sims.

You mean Warthunder? That’s fun to play. It’s a bit unbalanced in the beginning especially when you have a spitfire on your tail but it’s fun to shoot other people out of the air.

Killzone’s multiplayer is awesome. I really enjoy it. I’ll start the downloads for Warframe and War Thunder this evening. Looking forward to Planetside 2 as well 🙂

One word… NETCODE! This game’s netcode is impeccable, and if I have to compare it to the other FPS titles, it has the superior multiplayer. Sure BF4 has more content, but Killzone nails it.

One issue that always pops up with Killzone is Base-Kill (or in the not so kosher phraseology “base-rape”), which does have some merit. However, you CAN counter base-killers. It just means playing smart; spawn-droids, teleporting recon, air support and flanking attacks! Of course, if you’re a newbie, there’s nothing more frustrating than dying because veterans are at the door… Just don’t rush them mate. Find another exit point. That’s the key!
