Previous games set in the Dungeons & Dragons realms have leaned towards turn-based and more strategic efforts, but developer Turque Games is looking to ditch all of that plodding lack of energy in favour of a more visceral experience in Dark Alliance.

There was a time when first-person shooter didn’t automatically mean “guns and bullets” and I’m so ready for that to come back into fashion.

By Darryn Bonthuys

If you’ve read the books, you’d be well aware of just how grim they are, as that series paints a darker and more dangerous picture of life in a land where monsters are real and people are even worse. It’s a theme that the Netflix series wants to focus on, shining less light on the fantasy aspect of The Witcher and doubling down on the horror instead.

By Brad Lang

I’ve spent a good portion of my adult life playing Dungeons and Dragons. A past-time that even I (as hypocritical as it sounds) once deemed “too nerdy” to grace the top of my dining room table, I eventually realised what a jack ass I have been and welcomed the ever-loving but equally as harsh D20 into my life. Trials of Fire is that game, and it’s a refreshing twist on the usual formula of knocking around dungeons and possibly encountering dragons.

Real time strategy that mixes magic with relaxation and a deep system of ideas that you can learn at your leisure? That’s the kind of game that I could easily spend an afternoon with as I spend hours searching and taming magical islands.

Image’s new series The Realm tells the tale of a swords and sorcery apocalypse

By Darryn Bonthuys

What if the apocalypse wasn’t result of technology running amok, but an army of monsters that were thought to be the sole domain of the fantasy genre? That’s the scenario presented in Image’s next big series, The Realm. It’s ten years after civilisation has fallen, armies of Orcs, dragons and other mythical beasts roam the streets and a small resistance is combing the new wasteland for answers to just what went wrong for our species as they tangle with a sorcerer named Johnny Eldritch.
