Ridley Scott drops a few hints regarding the Prometheus and Blade Runner sequels

Ridley Scott is in quite a bit of trouble from with his fans this year, following quite a huge uproar regarding Prometheus, with its heap of unanswered questions and  ridiculously unintelligent crew. Mr. Scott, however, has delivered so many classic films in his time, including Blade Runner, easily the #1 spot on almost all top sci-fi lists. In an interview with Metro, he had a few things to say regarding the sequels to Prometheus and Blade Runner. Yes, both are actually being made. I’m not kidding. No…really, even Blade Runner. 

Mr. Scott had the following to say regarding Prometheus:

“Prometheus evolved into a whole other universe. You’ve got a person [Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw] with a head in a bag [ Michael Fassbender’s David] that functions and has an IQ of 350. It can explain to her how to put the head back on the body and she’s gonna think about that long and hard because, once the head is back on his body, he’s dangerous.”

When asked whether the film would be “that easy: he stated:

I wish it was that easy. They’re going off to paradise but it could be the most savage, horrible place. Who are the Engineers?

I hate to break it to you, but these are the questions we were hoping to be answered in the first film. Luckily, as sci-fi fans we are often quite forgiving, even after a year of wailing and gnashing of teeth, so I know I will look forward to the next installment in the Prometheus series but we will all remain slightly skeptical until we’ve seen it. Fool us once, Mr. Scott! For those of you who haven’t seen it, the first film was plagued by illogical characters and unnecessary vagueness regarding the questions it was supposed to answer and a very un-enthralling ending.

The topic then shifted to Blade Runner, and Ridley had the following to say:

It’s not a rumour – it’s happening. With Harrison Ford? I don’t know yet. Is he too old? Well, he was a Nexus-6 so we don’t know how long he can live [laughs]. And that’s all I’m going to say at this stage.

Okay, its confession time.  I have been carrying something around with me for years now and it is going to be liberating to finally get it off my chest. Here goes: I haven’t seen Blade Runner in nearly 15 years, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t really get it when I did. To be fair, there are dozens of different cuts of the films so there is no telling which one teenage Lourens attempted to watch. I had my whole future ahead of me, how could I have known?! Well, don’t worry, it is something that I will set straight ASAP, I promise.

All I know is, there are two things us fans don’t like being baited with:

a) The promise of a sequel to a nearly genre film and,

b) Harrison Ford

These are dangerous carrots to wave in front of our faces, Mr. Scott. There is nothing we love more than our beloved sci-fi classics, especially in combination with Harrison Ford so I will hold thumbs that this venture turns out the way we expect… that there is more of the story to tell, and that it isn’t going to be a shameless cash-in for a increasingly uninspired Hollywood.
