With all the brouhaha surrounding Orson Scott Card’s anti-gay position, it’s easy for those issues to drown out the promo campaign for Ender’s Game, Gavin Hood’s feature film adaption of Card’s most famous novel.

So what’s a film studio to do in a case like this? Well to paraphrase Gary Oldman, GET EEEEEVERYTHIIIIIIING!!! of course. So check out some new posters, images and clips for the upcoming sci-fi film.

First up, let’s introduce you to the gang with these six new character posters. Say “Hello” everybody!

Next up are three new images, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly who will be featuring the film as one of the covers of their upcoming Comic-Con 2013 issue.

Along with those pics, we got two new clips taking the form of sort of recruitment videos: one features the young version of Ben Kingsley’s character, Mazer Rackham, showing off his dogfighting skills, and another has Harrison Ford’s character, Hyrum Graff, showing off his complete apathy towards actually being in this movie.

Ford’s lethargic oration aside, those aerial combat scenes look amazing, but then again, I’m a sucker for anything involving spaceships shooting at each other. However the rest of the film turns out, one thing is for certain based on the rest of the footage glimpsed here: Director Gavin Hood is definitely playing around with some dodgy CGI as he did on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. From a pure visual standpoint, his looks – and I don’t use this term lightly – amazeballs.

Ender’s Game will be enrolling in Cinema Battle School on November 1, 2013.

Based on the best-selling, award winning novel, Ender’s Game is an epic adventure that takes place a near future wherein a hostile alien race called the Formics have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander Mazer Rackham (Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Hyrum Graff (Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young minds to find the future Mazer.

Ender Wiggin (Butterfield), a shy but strategically brilliant boy, is recruited to join the elite. Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult challenges and simulations, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham himself to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

  1. I am so looking forward to this! Man, it reminds me a little of Above and Beyond, did you ever see that? So sad it only ran one season 🙁

It should be a capital offence that so few people have seen Space: Above and Beyond. It was so far ahead of its time in terms of tone. Everybody praised Ron Moore’s BSG reboot for making sci-fi TV series all gritty and mature, but he borrowed so heavily from S:A&B.

You sir, deserve a medal for saying that. I remember thinking when watching the first ep of BSG, have’t they done this? And then looking back at S:A&B. You know they had 5 seasons planned! FIVE!

Yeah, its a shame that it never got beyond its first season. The networks pitched it as a kid’s show, but it was just far too dark and mature for them.

Yeah. Exactly. It was sandwiched in between a bunch of other cartoons. Even here, it aired on SABC2 during their kids’ entertainment slot, Tube or whatever it was called with that annoying plug-nosed green alien, Dub.

I know of what you speak. And my day, which; admittedly is rather wet due to leaks in the office, was happy is now filled with rage at the injustice that S:A&B got. That rage is ALMOST on par with Firefly and the way that was also treated (did I just go too far?)
