Jaime Foxx is aggressively pursuing SPAWN

As Sir Isaac Newton once famously said, “For every Iron Man, there is an equal and opposing Spawn movie out there. Newton out, bitches!”

Ok, that might be a lie, but it still rings true. Back in 1997, Spawn was an ambitious superhero flick, that was pretty much a terrible film. But in a good way, making it a guilty pleasure of mine. Todd MacFarlane has been talking about bringing back the duke of deep-fried crispy anti-hero for ages now, but with Jaimie Foxx now also expressing some intense attention towards getting a new Spawn off the gorund, it looks like that project might live again.

Speaking to Movies.com at Comic Con, Foxx revealed that he was pretty much not only looking to star in a new Spawn film, but to help produce it as well:

Spawn is one, yeah. And Mike Tyson. Those are two roles I would just love to do. I’m aggressively pursuing them.

As for creator Todd MacFarlane, he’s been talking for years about how a reboot of the film would involve the character being darker, more gritty, kind of like the well received animated series that ran on HBO years ago. As MacFarlane said to MTV:

I continue writing pages here and there. I have a guy waiting in the sidelines, an Academy Award-winning actor. Every three weeks he’s on the phone going, ‘Todd, where’s the script? Todd, where’s the script?’ I can’t say who it is. You could [narrow it down]. He came out to the office. He gave me his pitch, and I gave him mine. The pitch I gave was that we could do ten of these for the next ten years and he wouldn’t have to be 22 for the rest of his life.

I wouldn’t give MacFarlane much thought, as he’s been spinning the same lines for over a decade now. But Foxx, as an actor-producer mentioning that he’s eager to be in such a  film? Now there’s some potential.

  1. Agreed on MacFarlane always saying irrelevant crap but I’d rather see a Spawn movie reboot before seeing Jamie Foxx portraying Mike Tyson.

Cool, it would be nice to see a better Spawn movie. But the character isn’t as popular as he used to be…
