The BAFTA Britannia Awards went down on Sunday evening in London, and unlike their normally stuffy, American awards show counterparts, this was apparently a laugh riot, particularly the back and forth roasting between George Clooney and Julia Roberts. One of the major differences between the Britannia’s and other awards shows, is that winners are notified of their awards prior to the show, meaning they can prepare a proper acceptance speech instead of just rambling on the mic for 5 minutes before being drowned out by the orchestra.
One of those winners was Sacha Baron Cohen, who received the Charlie Chaplin Award for Excellence in Comedy, and he went up to get his award like only he can.
Firstly, stop drooling about Salma. Secondly, in case you haven’t guessed, the old lady was a setup.
Seems like Darryn isn’t the only person upset that NBC has plans in place to reboot 80’s TV show Murder, She Wrote with Octavia Spencer in the lead role as amateur sleuth and murder magnet Jessica Fletcher. The Fletch herself, Angela Lansbury, is apparently none too pleased about this latest development, saying that calling the show Murder, She Wrote is “a mistake”.
“I think it’s a mistake to call it Murder, She Wrote,” Lansbury said, “because Murder, She Wrote will always be about a Cabot Cove and this wonderful little group of people who told those lovely stories and enjoyed a piece of that place, and also enjoyed Jessica Fletcher, who is a rare and very individual kind of person …
“So I’m sorry that they have to use the title – even though they have access to it and it’s their right.”
“I saw [Octavia Spencer] in ‘The Help’ and thought she was absolutely wonderful, a lovely actress. So I wish her well, but I wish it wasn’t in Murder, She Wrote.”
Did you like yesterday’s hilarious bootleg DVD cover of the The Rock, well then wait until you get an look at this action packed, hot lady touting, explosive laden cover for J. Edgar, a movie that has neither action, hot ladies or explosions. I would definitely watch this version though.
Looks like you just can’t keep a good Pan down. British filmmaker Joe Wright (Hanna, Atonement, Anna Karenina) is apparently looking to give author J.M. Barrie’s classic literary character, Peter Pan, yet another big screen feature film, what makes this story different is that will be delving into giving the boy who never got old an origin story. A “Batman Begins” styled origin story to be exact, according to THR, which I think they mean to just be a reimagining at the ground level, and not see Peter Pan scaling the Himalayans to be taught ninjitsu by Liam Neeson.

This Peter Pan film is the third recent project about the character, with the Channing Tatum produced Pan being set up at Columbia Pictures, while Disney has writer/director Gary Ross adapting YA novel Peter and the Starcatchers for them.
They say that the tallest trees get the most wind, which I’m assuming has something to do with giraffe flatulence. Either that or they’re saying that the most successful things get the most criticism. I’m inclined to go with the former, but in the case of the latter, check out this special edition of Cinema Sins focusing on James Cameron’s Titanic, the 11 Oscars winning, longtime highest grossing movie of all time that people love to hate.
Samuel L Jackson may have let the superpowered cat out of the bag early, but now Elizabeth Olsen has finally confirmed that will indeed be playing the role of Wanda Maximoff aka the Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and it sounds like she’s really getting into her character.
“Yes, I’ve become like such a nerd about it. I’m having so much fun right now. It’s really really fun to read those comics and its really exciting. The majority of this stuff isn’t relevant to what we’re gonna be doing. But I’m loving it and it’s a lot of fun.”
“I’m feeling really excited about Scarlet Witch because she’s really complicated. It’s really fun stuff. I’m kind of tired of playing myself right now, like, versions of myself. Doing something like [Scarlet Witch] sounds a lot cooler.”
And in a hillbilly-like twist, Olsen has just finished filming Godzilla in which she plays the wife of Aaron Taylor Johnson, who will be playing her twin brother Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
A new behind-the-scenes featurette has been released for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, taking us inside the house Beorn the sometimes bear, sometimes man. Which coincidentally, is also how Darryn is often described before and after he shaves.
Idris Elba may be all about finding peace at the moment in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, but he’ll soon be kidnapping and torturing boys. No, this isn’t some kind of opposites day gag, Elba has signed on star in action thriller Bastille Day, which follows “a U.S. operative who is tasked with interrogating and eventually making a young American boy “disappear” in order to avoid embarrassment to the U.S. government after the boy is linked as the prime suspect to an attack on the Paris metro. After several more attacks, the operative realizes the boy is innocent and may be the only link to the person actually orchestrating the attacks.”

Stuntman turned director Scott Waugh (Act of Valor, Need for Speed) seems to be falling more and more into criminal ways. He started being all upright, stars ‘n stripes-ey with Act of Valor, now he’s busy showing Jesse Pinkman how to race fast cars over the speed limit in Need For Speed, and next he’ll have a couple of guys pulling off some grand larceny. Oh what a downward spiral of villainy! Waugh has signed on to direct an untitled heist movie for Dreamworks, which was based off an idea from writer John Hlavin (The Shield) and is being penned by Scott Rosenberg (Con Air, Beautiful Girls).
There are no concrete details yet on the film’s plot but is apparently said to follow “a man who needs to pull off a seemingly impossible job and recruits his brother, who is described as being off the rails.”
Somebody has gone and made a life-sized cake version of Pirate of the Caribbean’s Captain Jack Sparrow, because reasons.

You may have noticed (if you have eyes), that we’ve been talking a lot about the James Gunn directed mid-credits scene for Thor: The Dark World lately, due to the massive ramifications it has on the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You know who else has been talking about it? The: The Dark World director Alan Taylor, except that he’s not saying all the nice things about it that we have.
[END MINOR SPOILERS!]BleedingCool: So, while we’re talking about this film’s connections to the rest of the Marvel universe I have to ask, did you shoot the tag at the end?
Alan Taylor: By tag do you mean the middle thing, the one in the middle of the credits?
BC: I mean the one in the middle.
AT: I absolutely did not. I am very happy to not take responsibility.
BC: So was that James Gunn?
AT: I wouldn’t blame it on James Gunn.
BC: Blame?
AT: Er… I wouldn’t attribute it to James Gunn… it’s clearly his sets and his characters…
BC: So you’re not quite comfortable with it?
AT: I am very happy not to take responsibility for that…
BC: It’s a different tone for sure, huh?
AT: It’s a different tone. I would have shot it differently. But I think it’s cool that it reaches out and touches that other universe. That universe is coming. The Guardians universe is really cool and wacky… but that sequence in the credits, I would say, is the only part of the movie where I’m happy to give the credit away…
