Is RESIDENT EVIL headed for television?

Love it or hate it, but you can’t keep a virus engineered to create zombies down. Feelings have long been mixed about the Resident Evil movies, which continue to make money – Paul Anderson must own the same ATM as Michael Bay. It is also no secret that Capcom, owner of the Resident Evil franchise, is always keen to expand the media empire of its games. So unsurprisingly there appears to be a Resident Evil television show in the works.

Bloody Disgusting spotted that a new show called Arklay is being pitched to studios:

Clearly inspired by FOX’s “Gotham,” the series’ title is “Arklay,” described as northwest of Raccoon City. There, players found the Arklay Mountains, Arklay Mansion, and more notably the Arklay Laboratories.

Mance Media is behind said scripted series created by newbie Shawn Christopher Lebert. The show is said to delve into the mysterious homicides of Raccoon City.

Here’s the official pitch: “When Detective James Reinhardt is thrust into a series of bizarre homicides, he unravels the city is hiding a dark conspiracy. Learning a fatal virus is connected to it all, Reinhardt discovers it’s already coursing through him. With time no longer on his side, he must solve the conspiracy to save his own life.“

Interesting then that this doesn’t sound like a classic Resident Evil yarn full of zombies and firepower, but rather a detective series based in the same universe. While there is no doubt the plot would link up to the Umbrella Corporation (how couldn’t it), this may make for an interesting alternative approach to all things RE.

Yet the franchise is not unfamiliar with TV concepts: Resident Evil: First Hour was a web series about people surviving on a farm nearby the mansion of the original outbreak and currently Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is an ongoing web series. But if Arklay sees the light of day, it would be the first prime time TV entry for this particular line of brain eaters.
