Popcorn. Soda. 3D Glasses. Alcohol commercials. Only the Avatar movies can handle all four cinematic elements, and bring balance to your nearby theater.

With December 2016 quickly approaching for the deadline on the first Avatar sequel, you can imagine that director James Cameron and the rest of his crew are hard at work on developing the sequels, with Cameron having a statement to make about them when quizzed by Empire:

They’re gonna be bitchin.’  You will shit yourself with your mouth wide open.

Ladies and germs, the hyperbole bar has just been raised. Speaking further, Cameron described the process behind the sequels, revealing that the films would be shot at 48 frames per second over the newer 60fps model that Hobbit director Peter Jackson appears to have fallen in love with. Speaking of Jackson, you can thank him for one of the more iconic lines from the film:

I think we met for seven months and we whiteboarded out every scene in every film together, and I didn’t assign each writer which film they were going to work on until the last day. I knew if I assigned them their scripts ahead of time, they’d tune out every time we were talking about the other movie.

My thinking at the time was that 60 [FPS] might be a better segue to the video market. I’ll be plugging into a system that’s a little more mature, so it makes sense for me to do 48 frames at this point.

When Neytiri is holding Jake and she’s just brought him back to consciousness, the ‘I see you’ line was suggested by them,” remembers Cameron. “It might have been Peter who said that.

As mentioned earlier, December 2016 is the release date for the next Avatar film, with Avatar 3 following in December 2017 and Avatar 4 in December 2018. That’s a whole lot of blue CGI.
