Movie fans in Johannesburg have their own special place in the city center’s Arts On Main/Maboneng district. Granted, quite a lot of people still need convincing that a trip to the Jozi CBD won’t immediately result in being mugged, kidnapped and sold into slavery – but a quick trip to this trendy hipster part of town changes that view quite quickly. Especially after your third craft beer.

Featuring gourmet pizza and the aforementioned libations – which you can take into the cinema – The Bioscope is a great spot for some alternative cinematic fare. It’s not all brow-beating documentaries – check out the Noodle Box shows for some awesome Asian action films. If the list below doesn’t take your fancy, there is a larger program. Head to the official website and sign up for the newsletter to keep in the loop.
