Once Avengers: Age of Ultron smacks your cinematic face, its the end of an era. The second phase of Marvel movies will have come to an end, and so will director Joss Whedon’s presence end in that universe.
Those are some pretty big shoes to fill. And fortunately, Marvel has a duo of tested directors to take over for Whedon and the upcoming two-parter Avengers: Infinity War, in the form of the super Russo bros who will direct the endgame for Phase 3 of the Marvel slate.
Marvel has confirmed that Joe and Anthony Russo will direct the Infinity War films, after having been in the frontrunner seats for several months now. No stranger to the Marvel uninverse, the Russos knocked the ball out of the park with their first Marvel flick, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which went on to be one of the most critically and financially successful Marvel movies released.
The Russos are also currently busy filming the third Captain America movie, and dipping their heels further into an superhero ensemble film with Civil War, which will feature not only Cap, but Iron Man, Black Panther and a new Spider-Man.
Still, sounds like the franchise is in some good hands. Avengers: Infinity War — Part 1″ will be released on May 4, 2018. “Avengers: Infinity War — Part 2” will follow a nearly year later on May 3, 2019.
